| I adore this story but I was spurred to review by your footnote. Pawn To Queen was also one of the first HG/SS I read. It was an exceptional tale and a blast to read. I had lost track of it during the time it was still updating and am very sorry to hear that it was ultimately abandoned. I still think of Blaise Zambine as a girl and fear I always will. Thanks for the blast from the past! And thank you for this amazing amount of effort. |

| Interesting piece. Where to begin...? Congratulations, first off, on your first place for Epic Fic. The sheer amount of work you put into this means you deserve it! The positives: your ideas are AMAZING. From the Pure Adults, to the warding of the school, to Solace Slytherin's background, to the Weresbane Cure, I loved the interwoven complexity of the story and the multi-faceted parts to the power that Harry and Hermione inherited. The story was thick with great descriptions of each detail, and I really appreciated the obvious attention you paid to the creation of each individual part of the story. I will say that Hermione's character troubled me. She could do too much. I would have found it much more interesting if the wealth had been shared a little: maybe she invents the Weresbane Cure, but someone else is connected to the wards, and a third party is the Pure Adult, etc. Or if there had been limits on her power, which seemed pretty much limitless. My other thought was to shorten it. The wealth of detail was excellent, especially at the beginning, but when we got to the fourth or fifth description of the Weresbane Cure, I started scanning the paragraphs instead of reading them fully. My last thought is that the principle relationship was also a bit unbelievable. Hermione's strength as a woman matched to Snape's nastiness...I have a hard time seeing where she wouldn't just give up on him and move on to someone worthier. His early interaction with her seemed completely in character, but when their relationship shifted, I felt like it almost shifted so much that he became someone else. Which, I will grant you, love does to people, but I felt like he was almost too emotional, that he reacted with his gut most of the time and his brain caught up after the fact. There are plenty of places in canon where this is the case: his reaction to Sirius Black being one such example. But there are other places where we see his calculation, and I felt that in this fic when Hermione started her roller-coaster emotional ride, that part of him fell by the wayside. All of this said, I very much enjoyed this story - one of my bright points on returning from India was catching up to it again! - and I hope the above won't be taken as discouragement. You seem to be prolific, and I think you have real talent for storytelling. Thank you for sharing not only your work but the tremendous time it took to create this masterpiece. | What a perfect ending for this story. At first I was dubious about not being able to get Hermione's perspective on her bonding with Snape (an event we've all been awaiting for a while now), but being able to see all this through Mr. Stebbins clear, if slightly confused, eyes was really beautiful, and a perfect bookend for this story. This journey has, from beginning to end, been wonderful. There were certainly times when the behaviour of these characters made me want to beat my head against the wall, but the sheer fact that you were able to elicit such a reaction from your readers speaks volumes of your superb abilities. I can't say enough good things about this story, and if there were a way to order my 'Favorite Stories,' this would be number one. All the best to you and a happy new year! |
