Reviews for The Problem with Purity

Eeep! I'm so excited now that more people know and Ron and Remus seem determined to make some sort of trouble (Hmm, what is it with people with names starting with 'R' and rage?). Poor Severus, although perhaps he wasn't entirely unconcious the whole time? And the whole thing with Viktor has me on edge now, what if he's a baddie and trying to sabotage Hermione's attempts? Brilliant as per usual, and can't wait until your next post!

Author's Response: LOL I'm glad that you're enjoying how the secret in unfolding (and that R-rage is an interesting coincidence, isn't it?) Severus, I'm afraid, was indeed dead out through that whole scene. I will leave you to see what comes of it, as well as what comes with Viktor. Thanks, as always, for the review. ^_^

This really has gone to hell in a handbasket. Hermione's braver than I am - I would NEVER tell Ron Weasley what she just did. And I hope that the apology she so recently gained will be back - though I'm not at all surprised by his reaction. I liked Lupin's as well, and I hope to see some point where that gets addressed between the two men. Lupin is fond of Hermione, and I would be curious to see what he would say to Severus in that kind of a situation. I'm also left wondering whether at any point we will get some kind of ulterior motive / explanation for Snape's behaviour. I'm very much enjoying this piece, but I'm wondering at this point whether our principals will ever actually get together or whether Hermione should just get over it. He's gone from bad to worse since she slept with him, and I'm afraid that he's pushing himself towards the point of no return. His attempt to control the information was a big mistake. Impatient as always for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Hermione doesn't like to live on borrowed time, and she knows that it's only a matter of time until he finds out; leaving it to him to find out some other way is leaving a lot up to chance and would probably be kissing their friendship goodbye. And a large point of doing it the way that she did is trying to preserve Harry's friendship with the other boy, which I think they all recognize is stronger than Hermione/Ron's friendship. But she's a lot more powerful than when Marietta Edgecombe wound up with "sneak" on her face; trying to hurt anyone with the information would not be a wise life choice on Ron's part. There will be more on Remus and Severus eventually, as well as on Severus's behaviour. Patience is definitely a required trait if you're trying to be in a relationship with Severus Snape. If she couldn't see past his persona, she wouldn't have fallen in love with him in the first place; when he's persona-ed to the max, knowing/believing in what's underneath is sometimes unfortunate. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

ARGH! Just when Ron had stopped being a prat and was making an effort to rescue his relationship with Harry and Hermione. He was even making an effort to be polite to Malfoy! And then he goes and spoils it . . .. I am enjoying Victor's presence in the story - even though he is "faculty," he is closer in age to the students and seems to be a bridge between the two - plus he is supportive of Hermione, which (I think) she needs. And this would be a perfect opportunity for Severus to start making amends for his behavior, but I will be surprised if he does. I am very curious as to how he is going to extract himself from the hole . . er, make that gigantic chasm . . . he has dug himself into.

Author's Response: Look up hot-tempered in the dictionary, and I think you will find a picture of Ron. ;) He's good at spoiling things, I'm afraid, but he does have a history of making up for it, too (more or less, anyway). I'm glad you're enjoying Viktor's involvement. We'll be seeing how Severus does with that chasm, lol. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Dire.. dirER... dirEST. (are those even real words?) Sheesh--will Hermione EVER get a break emotionally? So much angst!! Ron is a lost cause-such a jerk here that he deserves no consideration from us (the readers). But, you know, I just can't bring myself to feel much real sympathy for Severus either. Yeah, he's the poor mistreated spy-abused by both masters..... But he's an honest-to-goodness dick head towards Hermione. Way above and beyond what injured pride (or even injured love) can justify in my book. I know that you are painting a Hermione that's essentially soul-bonded to him--but I am not sure I can relate to her devotion to him. I hope she makes him grovel and apologize at some point.

Author's Response: LOL All words, yes. I don't even count the bits with Ron as real angst (which is maybe a problem for my readers who do) because Hermione's emotional investment with Ron is simply not that great; she misses him from time to time, but the Ron-sized hole in her life is not very big. And this sort of behaviour (hot-tempered should be his middle name) is pretty standard, really; she and Harry have been living with it for years. It's been interesting to see how people respond to Hermione's continued feelings for Severus. I see her as having to have learnt to see past a lot of Severus's surface crap to fall in love with him to begin with. She continues to filter even if the level of prat-ness is much higher right now. As for him, he lashes out at things which upset him, and the more upset he is, the harder he reacts. They certainly have a lot to sort through before they could have an actual relationship, but I think that's entirely possible to do (even if much patience is required). Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. ^_^

I confess, I read this chapter last Thursday (after my last exam, woohoo!) at a ridiculous time of night. It was a silly thing to do, as I couldn't properly savour it, so I have returned to re-read it today. And what a chapter! I do love Hermione's loyalty to Severus. It's one of the things I love about her character; the man treats her abominably, but she's got the maturity and strength to keep it together and help him out anyway. I dearly wish we could have a glimpse of him after he wakes up from that Healing Sleep (but I know that can't happen unless Hermione happens to be in the room at the time). And Ron! I was just settling in to having him back again, too. Still, I knew it had to be revealed at some point, and it's probably better for it to be sooner rather than later. I hope they can patch it up again. (I also have a twisted desire to see Ron and Snape hexing each other's giblets off.) I can't wait for the next chapter! Thursdays will forever be associated with this fic for me; I feel like I spend my week waiting for the other days to get out of the way so that I can have my Thursday joy!

Author's Response: To my mind, Hermione has to have learnt to look past Severus's "crusty" exterior to fall in love with him to begin with; there will always be instances of him treating her badly, but she cares for him and that means helping him when he's hurt. If she gave up easily, this wouldn't be a SS/HG fic. ^_^ Hermione was definitely of the opinion that it was better to get any possible Ron explosion out of the way; living on borrowed time was not a feeling she was comfortable with. I'm glad that you're looking forward to what's coming up next. (And I think I should really keep a tally of how many people like Thursdays especially, lol.) Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Thanks for the lovely up-dates. I am absolutely nervous about the next Hermione-Severus interaction. Notwithstanding your comment on my previous review me thinks the time to talk openly for those two strong-headed people is ripe :-))))

Author's Response: LOL I'm glad you're still holding out hope for that resolution. It's … uh … not here yet. ;) Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

i apologize for not leaving a review earlier, but i've been having computer/keyboard issues so anything i would've sent would've likely been largely unintelligible. this is one of my favorite fics &i find myself anxiously awaiting thursdays. this story's compelling &well-written &doing a great job at keeping my interest. i will admit to a bit of frustration at the lack of a confrontation/discussion between severus &hermione but i'm sure when that comes you'll make it worth the wait. keep up the excellent work &i'll keep holding my breath for updates. :)

Author's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review now; I hope your computer/keyboard issues are now a think of the past. ^_^ I'm glad that you're enjoying the fic so much (even if you want Hermione and Severus to get a move on, lol, as so many people do). Thanks again for the review. ^_^

I've been reading this story forever it seems like, and I'm not sure if I've ever left a comment. I apologize, because I know how much authors appreciate knowing others enjoy their work. I just wanted to say this is definitely one of my favorites right now! And you give us long, compelling chapters so that it's always worth the wait for updates, thank you! I love your characterization of Severus - fluffy is just so OOC for him. He obviously cares, but he's a bit too damaged, you know?

Author's Response: This is your first review, and I do indeed appreciate that you have taken the time now; learning that another person enjoys my work gives me that warm fluffy feeling that you abhor in Severus. ;) Severus has definitely had numerous hard knocks in his life, and that makes a proper relationship rather difficult to achieve. Progress, at least, is not speedy. Thanks again for the review. ^_^
