Reviews for The Problem with Purity

Hmmm. It seems to me that there is a lot of communication that ought to be going on here, and the fact that it isn't borders on the unrealistic. I hope everyone's silence is explained in the next chapter. For example, Severus hasn't remarked upon the fact that his Dark Mark is gone; upon the reason his cover was blown; or upon the state of the plan to lure Voldemort to Hogwarts. (I do hope that revealing his double agent role and being killed was not his secret plan for getting the information across convincingly.) Draco shows no pleasure at Hermione's return with Harry, and since he was raised by the Malfoys (who pay their debts, as you've shown), I can't imagine him acting so rudely toward someone who saved his life and cured his lycanthropy. Was Lucius killed when Hermione removed his Mark? (And if not, why has no one been told that that is gone?) Perhaps Draco learned about the unicorn blood and resents her having visited Severus with its supposed curse? And I must say that Albus is really getting to be annoying with his "you shouldn't have done that; it was too dangerous" remarks. This is the man who let 11-year-olds go after Voldemort; who let 12-year-olds go after a basilisk; who left a daring, time-turning rescue to 13-year-olds; and who let a 14-year-old take part in a potentially lethal competition (surely it couoldn't have been a binding magical contract if Harry didn't submit his own name). To be nattering about Hermione's (successful) rescue of Severus and her (successful) wandless transformation is beginning to look like sexism, bordering on senility. I do hope the explanations promised in the next chapter clarify all this satisfactorily. And a little less angst would be a relief, too. Not that I'm not enjoying this all tremendously, of course....

I love reading all these reviews, they always make me think extra hard about what I've read! orm irian, you encouraged me to check back in chapter five - "A week later, Castina had formally requested Hermione's presence in the Forest, and Hermione learnt one more fact that was not recorded in any books she knew of: it was only unicorn blood that was taken by force which was cursed. Unicorns could freely offer their blood, although they did so extremely rarely, and this substance gave the gift of life with none of the drawbacks" which implies that Hermione is one of the few people who're aware of unicorn blood not being a curse... yet another brilliant bit of plotting and preparation by Silver Birch - I'm seriously in awe of your skillz! :)

Good chapter! I enjoyed the peaceful mood of the first half - it was a welcome break for me as a reader as well as a great 'escape' for Hermione. I've read a number of other reviews speculating that Severus was enraged because Hermione saved him with Unicorn blood, but I don't think canon supports the idea that ANY use of unicorn blood curses the drinker. My recollection (from Sorcerer's Stone) was that if you KILL a unicorn with the intention of drinking its blood to stay alive, you have a cursed life, a half-life, according to Firenze. The circumstances of this story don't fit that scenario. If memory serves, Hermione was given that unicorn blood as a gift. Since intention is crucial in magic, that should make all the difference. Anyway, that's my opinion - I hope I'm right and Severus isn't cursed... I look forward to the expanations you promised in the next chapter.

I'm so sorry I didn't review earlier, but my computer absolutely refused to connect to the Internet when I moved this last week. Grr! On the other hand, this chapter was incredibly amazing! I was actually surprised by the ending, though, it seemed less cliffie-ridden than usual. But then I thought to myself: This whole chapter is kind of a (really long) cliffie. I wanna know how Severus reacts! I look forward to 4ish days from now! ~SK824~

okay, I found you on here. I love that you post here before the other site. I loved this chapter, I just haven't had time to review. I will have to go through a post to every chapter later. I love how she is ignoring his demands for detition, after all he was the one that put her in danger. The last chapter moved me so much I read the last of it over and over. and see that he is 'sad' was a good thing. but I want to see more of them together. I can't wait.

Wow, this story is absolutely amazing. Such depth and content. Of course, I have all kinds of advise for Hermione of what I would be saying to a few people if I were in her shoes. But hey we aren't the same and it's always easy to tell someone what to do from outside the situation. My husband in point of fact is a great football coach (from the couch). I do feel sorry that she doesn't really have a human friend to be her confidante and sounding board. Even with Harry she can't totally be herself and give into a bitching session to just let all her thoughts out verbally to relief her stress. I also caught that Severus said "I ought". I myself have used similar phrasing which my friends and family know aren't meant literally but just an expression or how very upset or worried I am. Your way of writing and the conversational flow between characters is such that your story has a realistic feel that imbues the story with the power to draw the reader in as if they were living it themselves. This is my kind of story that has me trying to think of what I would say and do if I were there instead. Thank you!

Please, please, please. Let there be a little, teensy, eensy resolution or heart-to-heart. Something. Hermione has been through hell, and Severus has been suspicious of her and ughhhh. I wish he would have just confronted her about all the Krum and other people rumors, instead of sulking for weeks because he thought she wanted someone else. I want love love love! I mean, I know he isn't Romeo, but give a little bit! :D Post soon post soon! You're keeping me happy. I sympathize with your work stress. I just started school again, two states away, with no old friends to latch on to. Like I said, you keep me happy. Thanks for writing.
