Reviews for The Problem with Purity

That was an unusually startling cliff with which to end the chapter. I hope the next installment is posted soon! Severus is incredibly cruel, and I cannot fathom how your version of him could possibly end up in a "happily ever after" with anyone, much less Hermione. I personally would not be able to trust him completely. Someone who could be so dangerously violent in the midst of anger with someone he has even a casual relationship with is likely to be every bit as violent toward someone with whom he's more intimately acquainted.

Author's Response: It was very startling for Hermione, too, and thus it reaches the readers. I might agree with you about Severus if he had cast the Unforgivable out of the blue or the day before or maybe even at the beginning of the training session. But he's just woken up this morning to a great deal more power (imagine waking up and being twice as strong as you were before; you're going to miscalculate), and they're in the middle of a training session where the goal is to down your opponent (though one likes to hope, of course, that causing them a lot of pain is *not* usually also a goal). Severus *did* become a Death Eater, which is not to say that I think he's like most other Death Eaters but that he does have that aspect of his personality and reactions that might not be the ones that non-Death Eaters would think of as instinctively as he would. But I don't want to go into anything further since I don't like to spoil my readers. It will continue to develop in fic, and I hope it will all make sense to you as it unfolds. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

This was brilliant! Have been desperately looking forward to this all week :) Fantastic chapter, I love how Severus still thinks he's the one who's the injured party in the situation. Can't wait till next week to find out who's attackeing Hermione in the corridor. Love the idea of being able to see the wards :) and the extra books in the restricted section, very intriguing! Am now back to counting the days till next Thursday..... xx

Author's Response: *grins* I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter so much, including the wards, Restricted Section extras, and Severus's creative thought processes. ;) Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Nooo! Evil cliffy! That was a particularly bad one. Hurry up and update again I'm on the edge of my seat!

Author's Response: LOL But it was particularly startling for Hermione, too. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Just finished reading the last 4 chapters. It has been a crazy month. I wanted to let you know that you are doing a great job and that I love the pace of the plot. I really really want Severus to get his butt handed to him. He really doesn't deal with his emotions well. But I guess we can't really expect to much from him. I hope he is the one shooting the spells at her and that she takes him down a peg or two. I loved that Draco stuck up for Hermione and that the boys are on her side. I can't wait to see what Hermione is able to do with the information from the hidden books. She is already such a power house so it should be interesting. Once again love the story and your writting please keep up the good work.

Author's Response: I hope your month was crazy in a good way (or that the craziness is over now and you get to relax a bit). I'm glad that you're enjoying the pacing as well as Harry and Draco standing up for Hermione. As you say, Severus deals very poorly with his emotions, and he's hardly about to change instantly even if we want him to. More on the hidden books will be coming up. Thanks for once again leaving a review. ^_^

This was awesome, even though Severus is acting the injured party (why, I'm not sure). But do you do this on purpose? Write cliffhangers every single chapter to drive us mad in the interceding week? I will be counting the days until I find out if it was Severus who is silly enough to randomly curse her... or who else it could be?

Author's Response: LOL (He has his reasons, though they're not necessarily good ones.) I'm not trying to drive you all mental, I just think that cliffies are an important part of fanfic (and chapter endings generally, actually). Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

The last few chapters have been excellent (sorry I forgot to review them *eep*)!! I honestly thought Severus would have thrown her out earlier, hehe. When he did I wanted her to crush him, but poor Severus he's just hurt *aww*. Some lovely angst. Other than that I thought that this chapter was absolutely hilarious (maybe that wasn't your intention, but it was anyhow). Hermione thwarting them all and having Severus hand over his wand, golden, hehe. And in your author notes at the end you said *in the near future* rather than the usual *thursday* week ... does that mean we should be expecting an update over the next few days? *waggles eyebrows*. Keep up the great work!

Author's Response: I'm just glad you got the chance to review now. ^_^ It's great you've worked out a rational to how Severus is behaving; it's been fascinating to see how everyone is reacting. And this chapter was definitely supposed to have lighter moments to keep everybody going. :D "Near future" is indeed my indication that the next chapter will appear sooner than Thursday (it just won't happen very often). Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

The last couple of chapters have flown by, and made very good reading. Draco is right, Severus is an arse. A completely illogical arse - he's got something very valuable from Hermione and he's too ungracious to acknowledge it. I just hope she doesn't forgive him any time soon; I'd take a bet that those spells are his and he needs to be soundly hexed like the troll he is.

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the chapters. Severus can be very illogical when his emotions get the better of him. As to the rest, we've got a lot of fic left. ;) Thanks, as always, for the review. ^_^

"The next chapter, in which breakfast is an unusually interesting meal, will be posted in the near future. ;)". Of course, you do realise that I now have to check EVERY SINGLE DAY to see if you have updated. What an excellent chapter. Funnily enough I found SS throwing an unforgivable at Hermione quite cathartic, I feel better about their whole relationship now. SS must have got his dander up about something! I love how wonderful DM and HP are to Hermione and the fact that she was gracious enough to not stun SS at the end was a nice touch I thought. Your description of the visual manifestation of her magic was truly beautiful, I really enjoyed reading it. Thank you so much for writing this, although last week I was a little taken aback by how things had progressed, I realise now that this would not be the story it is without unexpected things creeping in. You take the improbable, weave it into the narrative and make it completely plausible, which is the mark of a rather brilliant story teller.

Author's Response: LOL I hope Saturday was in enough time not to drive you completely mental. "Near future" is indeed my indication that the next chapter will come out before Thursday, so you at least won't be looking in vain all week (and you won't have to be looking daily very often, as the bonus chapters are few and far between). I think you're the first person to tell me that you're happy about the Unforgivable (and that's why I love as many reviews as possible--I get lots of different viewpoints). I'm glad Harry's, Draco's, and Hermione's behaviour in this chap is also working for you (and the description of visual magic). Thanks so much for reviewing again; I'm delighted that you're incorporating the unexpected after all. ^_^
