Reviews for The Problem with Purity

Eep! Two more chapters!? I'm so happy right now. And another cliffhanger too! Ugh, I'm really hoping she's knocking at Severus' door, but unfortunately I'm guessing it'll be Krum, which will lead to horrible misunderstandings, but delicious jealousy. Another <3

Author's Response: LOL I'm delighted that you're happy and that you're theorizing about what's coming up next. I won't, of course, spoil you as to where Hermione's gone, but you'll be finding out soon anyway. ;) Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Aah! I not only forgot to put in a Hermione (though I figure you'd know about whom I'm talking), but committed my worst pet peeve! *Attempts to insert another 'o' to correct phrase to "reading too quickly"*

Author's Response: LOL I often wish reviews and their responses could be edited, too. But I now repose full confidence in your to/two/too abilities; typos happen to the best of us. ;)

Woohoo, another early chapter! You're really outdoing yourself this week. :) This chapter was fantastic, as always. I like the safe-house, especially the wards she borrowed out of the secret section of the library. Did she ever actually go back there? I don't know if I just missed it by reading to quickly (it's nearly bedtime, and I really really wanted to finish the chapter before I crashed), or if this chapter focused more on the bigger picture of the werewolves' problems and mentioned it in passing. Or something. This review is becoming less and less coherent. Thanks for another great chapter! ~SK824~

Author's Response: I'm glad that the early chapter brought you so much happy. :D It's not actually overtly stated in fic at this point, but you can infer based on Hermione's current abilities that she has indeed been continuing to read Solace's journals. The review seems entirely coherent to me, lol. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Ah, more wonderful story... I have so many thoughts, I don't know which to share! My bet is that this time she visits Viktor, and thinks nothing of the consequences of doing so. She's leading him on and doesn't even know it, isn't she? And of course, if Severus finds out then that will only reinforce his previous erroneous assumptions, but as Castina doesn't have a door to knock on, well, I suppose her options are limited. It's interesting that each time she leaves their common room she goes to visit a person instead of, as you said a few chapters ago, visiting the multitude of other places she could go, like the forest or the library. Heck, she could even stay in her room and ward against the noise- or play in her potions lab. There's an interesting bit of Hermione psychology in that I think, maybe even some of that inexperience in relationships showing. I can see her not wanting to lock herself away in her room and be isolated... but it also interests me that she seems to be consistently running away from highly charged emotional exchanges between Harry and Draco. I give her kudos for recognizing that it isn't her place to fix their problems, which is very adult of her, (even though she does try before she leaves- showing some adolescence) but I wonder if it has occurred to her that she gets uncomfortable and then runs to find another person rather than occupying herself with a crowd (herd) or in a crowded room. Wow, I just reread that and there are separate points I wanted to make and they just bled into each other. Well, I suppose the 'review' part of what I wanted to say is just that your Hermione makes me really think of her as a flesh and blood person rather than just a character- she has well-defined justifiable motivations, as well as subconscious undercurrents to her actions, and behind her being an extremely capable witch (I so loved the part with Bill) she's also just a kid with mistakes and misunderstandings and misgivings in her self-confidence. You write a really complete complex character in her. I mean, your other characters are wonderful also, you usually nail Severus right on the head, but well, this story really IS about Hermione and she's fantastic. That's all I suppose, if I were to keep going I'd end up writing a full character analysis. Though it's probably the mark of a good writer that someone who reads your work would *want* to write a literary analysis, and actually *could* because you've created so many layers to critique. Another great chapter, I look forward to next week.

Author's Response: I'm delighted by this review, though I'm not sure that I can do it justice in a response. I have this sudden mad urge to think that if only Castina *had* had a door on which Hermione could knock, many things would have gone very differently, lol. Since I don't like to go into the motivations of my characters too much because I have a perpetual aversion to spoilers, there's not a lot I can say beyond the fact that I'm delighted that you find Hermione to be as flesh and blood as it is possible for a character to be; given the accusations of Mary Sue-ness that some reviewers have levelled, it's always uplifting to hear from readers who find Hermione to be so much more than that. Romantic relationships are definitely one of the facets of real life about which Hermione has very little experience, and confronted by Harry/Draco, I think she oftentimes finds herself at a bit of a loss even if she doesn't quite articulate it like that…. So, yes, all to say I'm delighted that you're analysing, and I thank you very much for such a lovely review. ^_^

Hmm... I just don't trust Krum. Although he is a yummy bit of competition for Snape...... I guess time will tell! :) Great chapter, as usual!

Author's Response: LOL I certainly won't spoil you by giving you any hints about what's to come, though I'm glad that you're looking forward to possible competition for Severus. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Yay, I wished hard enough and we got two! -- I must admit that the Viktor scene completely took me by surprise! But it should certainly prove to be an interesting plot addition... Now... I wonder whose HP birthday it is next so I can anticipate jolly tidings and another chapter! Mwahahaha ;)

Author's Response: LOL I think you're all working out the twisted ways my mind works. ;) I'm glad that you're looking forward to what's coming up next, and I appreciate that you took the time to review again. ^_^

Yay! That was exactly as awesome as I expected. You have a real skill ;D :D I'll go reread it again later. I love that Viktor dropped everything and came to Hogwarts like that. Also, the Prophet needs to get a life. Harry (and by extension Hermione) aren't really that interesting, in the level of information the Prophet has about them. Really, they are much much better than anyone dreamed XD XD

Author's Response: I'm delighted that you enjoyed the chapter so much and that you liked Viktor's arrival in particular. :D I've thought the Prophet needed to get a life since GoF (possibly even PoA, lol), but alas, it perseveres in the worst sort of gossip. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Oh, wow! A cliffhanger that won't leave my stomach in knots all week whenever this story crosses my mind. And yes, I read and understood and agree with all your points from last week, but I was actually comtemplating meds. I might be a bit over-invested in these characters. Dare I hope we see a bit more of Severus' reactions and (mis-)assumptions about Viktor next chapter? Or more about Solace, now that she is behind so much of Hermione's super-abilities/skills? Lots of moving the plot forward and...me not being able to stay up all night reading. I am very much looking forward to scheduling myself a night to read this story straight through once it is finished.

Author's Response: LOL I'm glad you found this cliffie gentle enough not to bother you too much. I guess I can't make any promises about your not needing meds given that the cliffies will continue; but as an author, I'm quite sure that there's no such thing as being over-invested in the characters. ;) You'll have to wait to see about Severus and Solace-related activities (there I go with refusing spoilers again). I'm delighted you're planning ahead to an eventual straight-through read. :D Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^
