Reviews for The Problem with Purity

I actually had a dream that the author's note at the end of this chapter said that you would be uploading one chapter a day from now on. *Sigh* If only...

Author's Response: LOL I apologize for not making your dream a reality. I would have to take a leave of absence from work, and I'm not sure I could explain it to them so that they would understand.... ;) Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Ha, Hermione's more patient of Harry and Draco than I would be. But I love how she wants to protect Pansy and the other Slytherins, even from Albus. I can't believe I have to wait for Thursday for another post!

Author's Response: LOL Knowing Harry and Draco as she does, I think Hermione feels that Harry's embarrassment is about the only chance that she's got. ;) (And really, given the semi-public options that they have, I think she figures the common room is much safer for everyone.) I'm glad that you enjoyed their plan to protect the Slytherins. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Ooh ooh ooh! Please say it's Snape who's seized her arm and he's about to push her up against the wall a bit of snogging! (Although, having said that, at the end of the last chapter I thought she was going to visit Snape and I was wrong, so now I shall just have to wait and see.) Yet another excellent chapter! I remain very happy with Viktor's presence. I was very interested in Hermione's thoughts about her feelings for Snape (i.e. that they're not likely to change because she's picked him as her 'mate'). In many ways I like this, because the idea of Hermione being constant and true to him even when he's being a complete bastard is quite nice, and I can only hope that he finally realises how she feels and at least acknowledges what he's put her through. The Slytherin plot is intriguing - can't wait to see where it's going - and I find myself baffled by Hermione's Transfiguration trouble. I can only assume there's something deeper going on here. One of the things about this story that makes me really happy is the fact that it's already finished. With unfinished stories there's always the slightly worrying risk that they'll be abandoned at some point, whereas with TPWP, I have the security of knowing that somewhere out there lies the final chapter. One final note (I'm sorry for all the rambling, but I'm so pleased that your chapters are long that I feel compelled to match them with long reviews): I had an exam today, so I decided not to read this chapter yesterday, but to save it for after my exam - and I have to say, I got halfway through the paper, was really frustrated, and I thought to myself 'ah, but there's a new chapter of TPWP waiting for me at home' - and it really did make a difference. Can't wait for the next installment!

Author's Response: LOL I like your snogging theory. :D I'm glad that you're happy with Viktor's presence and intrigued by Hermione's feelings for Severus. I've always thought of her as a pretty loyal person to begin with in canon (witness her relationship with Ron in the early years despite their arguments), and once you add the "unicorn factor" on top of that, it seems a fait accompili to me in this fic. I have a fear of WIPs (having been scarred in my fic-reading youth), so I very much understand your worry. But this fic is indeed completed, and I am very anal about my updates. ;) Also, I never count long reviews as rambling--and I'm pleased as punch that the promise of the new chapter improved your exam-writing experience. :D Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Great chapter. What I like most is that Hermione has this great intelligence and ability. She has all of this knowledge, power(now), forethought, and she basically prepares for everything. But in the end she can't control any of the events that occur or that are going to occur. This idea translates well in your story.

Author's Response: I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the chapter. That's definitely how I've always seen Hermione; she's very smart and prepares in every way that she can for all sorts of eventualities. This means that she often gets things right. But she can't actually see into the future, so there are always going to be things that take her by surprise. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Ah, my Thursday treat! I really love this story! Like a favorite sweet snack, I want more ... sooner than later. I'd bribe you with a sack of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes products, a bag of lemon drops,10 sickles and dung bomb if you'd post sooner. However, I'd be content with you keeping up the good work. (:

Author's Response: LOL That's a nice collection of bribes, I will give you that. I'm going to attempt to keep up the good work, though, because the weekly updates are, alas, definitely the norm. Thanks for taking the time to review again. ^_^

Well, here I am on my second read-through, and attempting to leave a little more feedback this time around, as promised ^.^ This was one of my favourite chapters the first time I read it, and it still is. I especially liked the conversation with Draco (though that was an enormous risk on Hermione's part), as well as the Christmas Eve Fight, for both the characters' interactions and the insights you've given us into magical cores and controlling and channelling (or not) one's magic. In my mind, Occlumency works on similar principles (the mind left open and accessible, partially closed off with only certain memories brought forward, or completely closed off), but I hadn't really thought about a person's magic that way. Of course, nothing beats the mysterious nocturnal redecorating of the Great Hall and Severus' reaction to it. Not only could I picture it, I could hear it and it had me grinning stupidly at my computer screen. (My mom has decidedly dumbledorean tendencies when it comes to Christmas, but as it's her favourite holiday, we humour her and hope the tree doesn't fall over...)

Author's Response: I'm delighted to be getting more feedback from you; it's great to hear that this is one of your favourite chapters. I'm always intrigued to see what appeals in particular to different people. There isn't much that Hermione won't do for Harry, and between her desire to help get Harry what he wants and a genuine desire to help Draco, the risk definitely seemed worthwhile for her. One of the interesting things about writing a fic of this length was that considerably more thought was required when thinking about magic and magical abilities; being in Hermione's head, I had to have a fair bit of a plan for lots of different things. And I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the black decorations and Severus's laughter. :D Thanks for taking the time to add this extra review. ^_^

I have been following this fic since you started it. I can only say it is a breath of fresh air to see Hermione and Harry acting for themselves instead of following blindly Albus or Severus. Proactive, it's wonderful, and now that the Slytherins are into the mix it's making this fic a highly enjoyable and frustrating read...frustrating only because it's not finished yet...I applaud your efforts. Truly one of the best I have read! Keep it up!

Author's Response: I think that an essential part of growing up is coming to have a reliance on yourself rather than your elders; Hermione and Harry have been forced to grow up rather quickly, and they've learnt the importance of relying on themselves the hard way. I'm delighted that you're enjoying the fic so much even if you find the incomplete status frustrating. The weekly updates will continue until we make it all the way to the end. :D Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. ^_^

Good chapter. I look forward to next week!

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed it and are looking forward to what is to come. ^_^
