| Excellent chapter, excellent cliffhangers. As always a lot of wonderful material and prose and several great plot twists. You (and your betas) are the best.
My number one burning question is who was waiting and watching in the bushes and what will the ensuring fallout be (more or less depending on who it is)? I’ve also long wondered if Hermione has items in her escape box that might help more than just her … is there any chance she has supplies for polyjuice potion in there? Passports (male & female) with pictures that go along with hair samples? I wonder what would happen if she lost her job due to a scandal. And is this where the dried lemons fit in? Lastly, I’m curious if there is still a chance that there won’t be an escape per se but a change in administration brought about by a wider scandal…. Yeah, I know, I’m speculating wildly. I keep thinking of Fudge and Moody as being slightly fascist and how their comeuppance would be more satisfying than just an escape. I took great comfort in Hermione’s last statement of ‘not tonight’ because Severus is smart and will probably figure it out as soon as he’s over the worst of his temporary heartbreak. The ending was sad, but the entire scene at his flat was nothing short of delicious and intense; I had to read that several times. It still makes me nervous, though, that your Ashwinder genre description omits ‘romance’ and lists only ‘general, angst,’ hmm? Miscellaneous points. Hermione using Severus’ name – perfect timing, so romantic. Trevor - nice to see him honestly humbled; will he serve as an ally in a future plot point? Ron - he is an ass for sure, but I’m still wondering whether a lot of his good points (the posh dinner, the compliments, helping Rogina) are evidence of 3d character or are obscurations. Viktor – nice use of his character, a strong friend when needed, now and maybe in the future. Hermione and liquor – sometimes getting a little drunk promotes truth not just reckless behavior; I would have loved it if she had gone to Severus’ flat for love and not just sex, but it’s your story, and every time I get nervous, you pull something better than I expected out of your plot hat. | So many things to say about this! First about Ron, I think that he is cheating on Hermione. He wasn't at the time that he left her for a week but it must have started at some point during this interval. Part of me is suspecting that Rogina's floo call was pre-arranged. She couldn't call the aurors to break up the remainding fights?
When Hermione started drinking I seriously wanted to throw something at her. Doesn't she know what this does to her? I was so glad when she left Severus without anything going further. When they met it was so nerve racking! She called him by name! One mask down and lord knows how many more to go. You made us see how Severus is her only salvation (her only claim to sanity). And yes she should go for it. But this doesn't make it right. Everything is so convoluted... My first thought about the shadow was that it was Ginny. But it would be such an irony if it belongs to Harry and if at the beginning of Act II we have Harry and Hermione meet over coffee only this time instead of suspicions about Ginny he talks about her and Ron. Well time for that break as you say. But it won't be a relaxing one I tell you. Please come back soon! | |||

| A couple of chapters ago when Ron took Hermione out, a few reviewers noted how appaling her behavior was. I think this is the first time I see it. As I read this chapter the more angry I became towards her. She doesn't need this dinner at all. She spends half the evening comparing how her life could be with the other men she dances but her mind is constantly on Severus. She ordered Cassoulet! If that isn't a hit-you-over-the-head-with-a-frying-pan reminder that he is constantly on her mind then I'm the tooth fairy. She is not giving her marriage a chance. That marriage died (slowly and painfully) a long time ago! And Ron. Agh don't get me started... I really want to know what caused this change in him. He went from showing some lust towards Hermione to being completely cold. He cares for her well-being (the scene when she went down the stairs tells me that much) but that's about it. This is a bad omen for Act II I fear... Author's Response: Yes, you could say she has already made up her mind, but is going through the motion of the dinner before doing anything with a so-caslled clear conscience. With Ron, he has his own little story that will unfold during act II and III. You are right, their marriage died a while ago. This is just its death knell. | |||

| Ever since you told us that surprise inspections would be occurring in the future, I've been wondering if Harry might ever discover a link between Severus and Hermione. I wouldn't be too surprised if that spying person turned out to be Harry, but I neither would I be surprised if it turned out to be someone completely different. Author's Response: Maybe, maybe. | *Swoons* Oh, my. It's here. It's finally here... yet- I *need* more. You are amazing. It is times like these, that it must be said, you- are- fantastic! The dinner was a masterpiece... I didn't expect to see Victor there, that was fun. Those men fawning over Hermione- I'd have loved to have seen Severus' face- ha! As you've stated, I can't wait to find out the answers to all those other plots you've devised. But, right now, all that is needed is for Hermione to go back to Severus, explain herself, and then for them to rejoice... :)

| This chapter was so different than what I was expecting, but so great. Of course, now I am eagerly anticipating the next chapter -- the beginning of Act II. Author's Response: What were you expecting? Complete catastrophe? Nah, too predictable. What better way to have a perfect disappointment than to have everything perfect and still be completely unsatisfying? | |||

| Wonderful, wonderous, amazing two chapters. Well worth the wait. I have taken to checking every day for an update, and to find two chapters was a gift beyond! You truly do have a gift for writing. The fact that is only the first of three acts gives me great hope for the future! I cannot wait for the next chapter, and only hope that it will not be far away. Thank you for writing this!! But I'm going to go completely insane wondering who was waiting in the shadows!!!! Please let us in on the secret soon!!! *begs* Author's Response: Actually, it's one chapter split in two due to length. Don't bother checking every day. Once a week at most is when I'll be posting, unless I can get a few chapters ahead of my betas and them ready queued up for them to work on. Right now, about a chapter a week to ten days is all I can do right now. | |||
