| I have been following the thread on WIKTT about the prolonged UST. I have to say that in my opinion, this is one of the truest elements in the story. As you have envisioned her, Hermione is highly principled and cautious. From her reaction to discovering Ginny and Draco in the early chapters we can see that she has a difficult time rationalizing adultry even given mitagating circumstances. Her preoccupation with saving money and dedication to following exact protocols for potions ingredient testing as seen in later chapters show that she is deliberate, cautious and controlled. This is not a character who would find it easy to ignore her commitment to her husband, give in to her passion and place her trust in someone who has hurt her in the past without serious internal struggles.
She also seems self-aware enough to realize that she would not be capable of remaining married to Ron while having an affair with Snape. She has to know that the guilt would rip her apart. A decision to begin an affair with Snape, I think, would also mean a decision to end her marriage. As a reader, I'm all for it. But for Hermione, this would be a hard decision. Ron is a pivotal figure in her personal history. They grew up together and shared life-changing experiences. I am sure that she can't forget that, no matter how much of a jerk he is now. I also think that due to her cautious nature, she is well aware of what a divorce from Ron would mean. Despite the Weasley family's meddling and manipulation, they are an important part of her life. She must also worry that her relationship with Ginny and Harry would be damaged if she were to leave Ron. And then the big question is: what then? If she rips apart her entire life and leaves her husband, does she continue to see Snape in secret for the rest of her life? Does she have to keep her relationship a secret from everyone around her? Of course we know that Snape has bigger plans, but Hermione doesn't know that. I imagine that she as a great many doubts and concerns about the future.
All in all Betz--I really enjoy this story. I have been following it from the very first chapter, although this is my first review. I hope I made up for it with the length of this one! Author's Response: You've got it in one. This review explains a lot of what I'm striving to portray with my fic. Some people wonder why Herione is waiting and why I am coving all the little details of their meetings, but I'm trying to show them moving closer and closer bit by bit, cause there are some rocky times ahead. They will need that base of friendship and trust to get through it. It's a wonderful feeling to know that you have picked up on all that I've tried to tell with my story. Very succint in your analysis. You really nailed it. Considering this review, it *really* made up for the fact that you haven't reviewed until now (Don't feel bad for not reviewing before - just one review from you is plenty , especially one like this). "What then?" Yes, that is the big question. We can sense that she's moving towards a decision, but if she does decide to hop in the sack with Severus, then what? Well, that's Act II to my story. Lots of things that I have set up in the first act will come to bear in the second and third act in this three act story. I'm thrilled to see you've been with me from the beginning and have patiently read it all the while. Thank you. | |||

| One more night... OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG.... Yay! Will they make it?Will Hermione say "fuck it all, take me now!" or will her resolve hold? Will someone else find out about it at the last minute? Will Severus even wear his mask the last night and ask Hermione to take her blindfold off? Dun, dun, DUN! Til next time on the bestest HGSS ever!

| Excellent story. I am glad somehow that Severus and Hermione have done nothing 'wrong'. This tension between them is so enjoyable. Thank you for this long chapter. I just hope Hermione won't stay with Ron, but I cannot wait to see her try (or maybe not). I am looking forward for the anniversary chapter. Author's Response: Yes, part of the reason why Severus has held back is that he senses if he pushes things to far too fast, he'll scare her off. I am writing the anniversary chapter right now, so it's on the way. | |||

| I've just been re-reading this from the beginning and can't help but applaud the foresight you had, at least in terms of what HBP has given us. Your Hermione seems perfectly hypocritical and [delusionally] self-righteous as she was in HBP. It hadn't settled well with me at the beginning, as I was firmly ensconced in the HG/SS-fanon world where Hermione is far less normal and both are far more one-dimensional [in a...complex way, of course--they're still HG/SS, after all! ;) ]. But now I see that your Hermione is likely one of the closest to canon i've ever read. Fantastic insight to the character, I must say. Author's Response: Yeah, I was reading HBP and just thrilled that some of the new canon supported my fic (warm and fuzzy feeling of being close to right). But then Severus killing Albus....big downer and totally threw this AU, but what fic that started before HBP hasn't been made AU either? I'm thrilled to hear your compliment about my Hermione. There are some who might say differently, and they are entitled to their own interpretation, but it's certainly nice to hear it from a reader. Thank you. | |||

| Loved that we had all Severus and Hermione in this chapter. Delightful! But we are growing impatient with this wait, poor Severus, I feel his agony. ;-) Can't wait for more!
