Reviews for And They Didn't Live Happily Ever After

Another pitch-perfect chapter... Hermione's internal debate flows so well, as do the well placed external voices that weave in and out of her fog of introspection: Bill's wonderful gesture of understanding, Snape's bitingly prescient voice from the past, and the really annoying way the Ron-we-love-to-despise occasionally does something right (earning more money is a good thing despite him being a jerk about it) in between all the stupidity. Do we really have to wait for him to do something completely unacceptable for her to leave his sorry ass? And I'm guessing from your A/N's that she might feign ignorance with Snape a little while longer? Hmmm - I was speculating how the old Hermione would confront Snape brilliantly, but obviously she's not her old self and probably won't ever be, for the better by the end of the story I trust. ... One miscellaneous thought: I usually prefer reading books/stories all in one sitting, but I have to say that waiting for your updates seems a bit like Hermione having to wait for her Thursday and Monday appointments with Calleo/Snape; in a perverse way, having to wait for the chapters heightens the anticipation and savoriness (is that a real word?) of the story when the updates arrive. ... But, wait, today IS Thursday! Please....!? Oh, right, I promised myself not to beg. Thanks again to you and your betas.

Author's Response: Perfect? I don't know, but if it entertained you, then that's all that mattered. Thank you. I glad you found the rhythm and flow well paced. Yeah, Bill is cool, I thought there should be at least one male Wealsey with quite a bit of common sense besides Arthur. Hermione will never be her old self again. She is much older and so much has happened in her life to let her revert back to the way she was when she was 17 or 18. None of us ever go back to being that young, exuberant and naive, no matter how much of the old spark we get back later in life. I do believe savoriness is a real word, though I didn't check m-w.com to see if it was. So glad you're grooving on the anticipation factor. More on the way very soon...I promise! I really do love your wonderful reviews.

I just can't even guess how (or is it if?) the next Snape/Hermione meeting will go. Sometimes I think she won't bother going back. Sometimes I think she'll confront him in a towering rage. And sometimes I think she'll pretend nothing has changed. I suppose her meeting at the Three Broomsticks will help Hermione decide what she's going to do. But who is she meeting? My first guess was Lavender, but it could be Kingsley (since she now knows he's Snape's parole officer) or Ginny (since Hermione has guessed that Ginny is more aware of Draco/Snape's whereabouts than was previously suspected). Keep us guessing, and update when you can.

Author's Response: If you REALLY want to know how the next meeting between Hermione and Severus will go, you can sift through all my Author Responses to chapter 40 (this chapter - technically ch39) for all the hints I've dropped. I can't say who Hermione is meeting, but you'll know in the next chapter.

DUM DUM DUM! Good thing Hermione figured everything out when she wasn’t in Calleo’s presence; that could have been ugly. At least now she has a chance to come to grips with the information.

One of the many things I really like about this story is the realistic, humanizing touch you have with the characters. I’ve been to family gatherings where a youngster innocently blurts out something politically incorrect. I’ve seen manipulative mother-in-laws telling lies for the greater good (in their minds, anyway). These touches of humanity are just so realistic, it’s a real pleasure to read.

That said, what’s your problem with Hermione? Every time the poor woman tries to get some self gratification, something comes along and interrupts. Hey, it was useful information this time, but couldn’t she have heard it during the afterglow? I’m just saying it’s no wonder she pitched a fit in the bathroom, the poor girl has to be high strung by now. When, oh when, will the UST become resolved? Or are you trying to determine if it’s possible for Hermione (and your readers) to explode from an overdose of UST? I see there’s another chapter up, so on with the torture…

Author's Response: Yes, it's very fortuitous that Hermione figured out while not in Severus' presence. She would have...I think the term would be, "royally freaked"?

Thank you. I so glad to hear feedback that there is some realism and humanism to my characters. Yes, most of us have dealt with something of that nature when dealing with family.

Hermione's problem is that she has an author with a sadistic streak controlling her life in this story. Things were getting too nice and cozy for her, so I thought I'd crank up the angst a few hundred degrees. Yes, poor Hermione is sexually frustrated, and just when she decided to take matters into her own hands (pun intended) and become his lover and FINALLY get a good shag in the near future, I throw a spanner in the works. Evil author! Forty lashes with a wet noodle. (YES! OH, YES!) The torture will continue on for a while, but when the release happens, it will be EXTREMELY satisfying.

understand completely. couldn't help myself with a little teasing. glad to know you have a helpful hubby. some aren't so lucky. yes you need to get that beauty rest. wee ones have a tendency to wear one out. speaking of which i need to go take my two (6 & 3) outside to run off a bit of energy before bed. patiently waiting for more. patty p.s. i'm sorry if i did upset you.

Author's Response: YOu didn't upset me, I was merely explaining where I am since you asked. Thankfuly, I recently disocvered the secret to getting the baby to sleep all night long with no 4 am wake up call - warm baths with lavender soap just before bed in a room between 60 and 70 degrees. Ahhh, two nights in a row of peaceful sleep! Hope it lasts.

Okay, Miss Smartypants... When will chapter 41 be up??? ;) smile ;)

Author's Response: I'm still working on chapter 41, as it is the hardest chapter to write for this whole fic. There is a lot of...subtlety involved in that chapter and it's taking a lot of energy and time to write it, but I should have it finished soon, then I'll send it off to my betas. Add on top of that the only chance to write is in the evening after hubby comes home, we have dinner and he can watch the baby or after the baby goes to sleep around 9 or 10 and it's hard to write that late at night when you have to wake up at 6 the next morning. Trust me, I'm writing as much and as fast as I can.

I love how you had her try to work through her denial in her mind. It's exactly how I expected her to react. I can't wait to see how she handles seeing him and if she reveals that she knows who he is. although, it sounds like she won't be. Ron just keeps getting more and more annoying. I loved that little thought she had about just running away with Snape. That was great. I was wondering if she would connect Ginny and Lavender to the whole thing. Very well done, can't wait for more!!

Author's Response: Thank you. Yes, Hermione has some serious issues she has to come to terms with before she sees Snape again. Ron is...well...he just Ron. Will she connect GInny and Lavender? Well, she has already figured out that Ginny probably knows about Snape and her seeing him, and Lavender was the one who set her up with Snape. So she's just going to pretend not to acknowledge anything, as that means that she'll have more to deal with if she confronts everyone.
