What complete and utter bastard Sirius is!! I hope Hermione hexes his balls off or worse!! I do hope Severus and Hermione can survive this too!!

Author's Response: If Severus and Hermione are destroyed, it will not be from within, but dark, dark forces are rising. Muhahahaha! Thank you, Tangerine, for always being so supportive of my story.

"Professor Snape excited her. There was an energy, a restless knowledge within him, that called to her. She admired his brilliance, his precision, his strange, compelling physical attributes, which, taken individually, never quite summed up the whole." Bingo! Isn't this what attracted all of us to this amazing wizard to begin with? Every one of the chapters in this story is compelling and beautifully written, but I think this is the ONE that has taken me by the neck and demanded "Look at me." Your Severus and Hermione have worked their way through a veritable minefield of personal history, manifest disappointments in their lives, a recognition of their individual fears and needs, and found the person they want most to be in their lives... each other. There were a few moments when I didn't know whether this whole thing was going to blow up in their faces or bring them closer together and stronger than ever. Hermione's resolve to get to the bottom of what she had witnessed when she got to the Shrieking Shack was a beautiful example of her depth and determination and her innate ability to see through to the core of a situation, to recognize the essential goodness or despicability of someone. And she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Severus is sincere in his feelings for her and that Sirius Black is rotten to the core. When I read the following, I was struck by the feeling that this may be a herald of what is to come: "It was an evening that Hermione never forgot, and later, when her world crashed down and threatened to crush her and everything she knew, she remembered sitting in her professor’s study, hearing his beautiful, beguiling voice. It had the barest hint of Northern inflection, rising and falling, spinning his tale into the night. He cast it over her like a spell in and of itself, and she remembered that, within this man, was her hiding place." There are dire times ahead of our couple, and I fear what they still must face. When Severus allowed Hermione into his mind I thought this was the most beautiful expression of his feelings for her that he could have made: "He looked into her mind, and opened his to hers. It was an incredible sensation, but it wasn’t frightening or sordid. She could feel his desperation, and his fear, and his longing. And she could hear the soft, emphatic, honest, No." Well done, Teddy! And now here at the end of the chapter, we have Harry accusing Severus of trying to molest his best friend, and Dumbledore seeming to believe it, too. I have a feeling that Hermione is about to let loose with the truth about Sirius, and I wonder if they will believe her. Perhaps she and Severus could very selectively remove their memories of that night in the Grammauld Place library when Professor Snape happened upon Sirius trying to seduce Hermione that first time. If they could be very careful, then both Harry and the Headmaster could witness Sirius' attempt at seduction, Severus' intervention, and then his comment to Hermione in the hallway: "If you'd stop flaunting yourself in front of every wizard you see, you wouldn't be in need of rescuing, Miss Granger. Perhaps the next wizard to come upon you and Black may not find the thought of fucking you so…unpalatable." Would that be enough to quell their determination to believe the worst about Severus? Probably not... and it might only make matters worse. Wow! What a great chapter! Beth

Author's Response: Beth, I'm always so glad to receive a review from you, and this thoughtful, thought-provoking review is the perfect example why I love to write for people. I so appreciate your way of looking at what I do. It means more than I can say. I have read your review several times, and it gives me more inspiration each time. I will agree that dire times are coming, and they will be tested in fire, as will others, but they will not be tested by each other. That's over and done with. Now, it's time to move on, and face the enemy together.

You know, so often Snape's character is written as virtually unbreakable with his hard won understanding about life and skill set as a spy. Occasionally I read a story that really reveals his angst new ways. We all know his tendency to blame others for his outburst ends up hurting him so much, what I like is how you have written it so that he finally gets it! While this is a very emotionally sensual chapter I have to say the part that inspired me to write this review is his revelation about himself to himself earlier on. I think there are quite a few people who can identify with his sense of being denied by life. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: I think Severus has a bit of what's called 'arrested development', but to portray a character with such rigid inflexibility can be so frustrating for the reader until the HEA moment, that its a bit unrealistic. I think Severus' character is intelligent enough, when faced with Hermione's honesty and integrity, and his own admiration for her, that he could also choose to change. Make no mistake, I'm not going for pansy!Snape, but I think he has to be honest with himself for any relationship-building to occur. Or, at least, that's what my Muse is telling me!

Angst plus sex almost always equals a great story for me, and this fic is definitely delivering the goods! Every chapter packs such an emotional punch...I love it! Glad Hermione made the decision to embrace womanhood and maturity rather than taking the easier route of clinging to childhood and hiding behind her age. Sometimes I feel that in Book 6 Hermione took a big step backward maturity-wise with the way she reacted to all the Ron/Lavender nonsense, so it's nice to see this Hermione moving forward and growing in confidence as a young woman.

Author's Response: I figure if she's going to be a part of this, she'd better grow up, and she didn't let me down!

Now is the time for Hermione to tell that fool Harry the truth about his precious godfather. And she should give Dumbledore a flea in his ear while she's at it.

Author's Response: I think somebody's about to...

Wow, that conversation was powerful...

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I hope you will continue to enjoy the story.

So complex and heart-rending and tensile that I could hardly read it. Thank you. You are doing justice to them.

Author's Response: Thank you. I wanted to give them a different spin, but not mar the actual personality traits that we know and love. I hope I have met the balance well.

Oooo. What an *%#!*?@*. I hope that dog gets a swift kick in the ass. And yay for Severus and Hermione's first step! Another awesome chapter. I know you get this all the time and writing does take time but Im simply hoping you'll give us more soon the satisfy this addiction you have given us. Happy writing!

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I am utterly blown away by the reviews I'm getting. I have to confess I was more than a little worried about this chapter. It was a bit of an 'Epiphany' chapter, and sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. I'm glad that you think it worked. I'm working on the next chapter even as we speak. It should be uploaded in the next few days, unless the Muse has other plans.
