I can't see a way out for Severus except to do the Headmaster's bidding, and walk straight into the fate Albus has set for him. I couldn't blame Hermione if she had AK'd the old fart right there in his office. Of course, if she had it would have hurt Severus so much for her to cast and Unforgivable.
