Reviews for Lay Me Low

The final scene of the chapter was particularly intense. These lines of Severus's: “I don’t want to go back. I don’t want to be the man I have to be there!" were incredibly sad. I hope that things work out for Severus and Hermione and that they have a "happy ending."

Author's Response: This Severus has been through so much. Giving him a change to taste happiness makes the idea of leaving it all the more awful.

I officially hate Albus Dumbledore now. He was totally out of line to speak with Severus that way - particularly when he told an already emotionally fragile man that he had caused the deaths of his love's parents. On a happier note, I'm thrilled to see the happy couple married. Seeing Severus so relaxed and tender is very special. Great work! :)

Author's Response: Thank you! Dumbledore isn't my favourite character, but like Hermione, one day I hope to understand how he thinks and why he does the things he does.

Superb. I loved how Snape initially resisted her plan for them to get married until he was summoned - his selflessness in thinking of her and how their marriage would affect her after the war ended was sweet, if not also a little irritating. I can't wait for their wedding!

Author's Response: Yes, Severus can be stubborn, but his heart is always in the right place. As time passes, he begins to rely on Hermione's instincts a little more, but now he's still trying to come to grips with it all. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing - I appreciate it so much.

Snape's sorrow was so realistic and all-consuming that it was actually painful to read. I love getting a "behind the scenes" look at what was happening in the books, but from Snape's perspective. Looking at HBP from his point of view, it's a wonder that the man didn't crack and join Gilderoy in St. Mungo's from the pressure. At least Snape has someone on his side in this story! I'm quite sure that a proposal was the very last thing that Snape was expecting to hear - I can't wait to see what his answer is! :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much. It was about at this moment in the story that I realised I was writing 'Snape's Canon', and that terrified me. It has certainly been a challenge to follow a story, yet use a different road to travel toward the destination. I'm glad you are enjoying it.

I love how you've compared Severus with Hermione in regards to the many "firsts" they have experienced together - although he is older, there are still so many wonderful "first" moments that he is capable of experiencing and it is refreshing to see him live the life that he should have had. And the beginning of the chapter was so steamy that my glasses fogged up! :) Keep up the excellent work!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! This section of the story was one of the most exciting to write. My beta laughed at me that it took me four pages to get them to kiss in this chapter alone! lol Seriously, I really hope you continue to enjoy the story.

Ooh! I can't wait to read the next chapter! :) It's a rare feat for you to have taken a thoroughly unpleasant character in the books and transform him into a sensual, beautifully articulate man. My hat goes off to you. :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much. As I have stated often, we see Severus Snape through the filter of a teeneaged boy who hates him, through the eyes of an author who based his character on a teacher she hated. When you look at his composite makeup, he is, to me, far from the cruel, cold-blooded male we are shown. I think he is a great character, the best JKR ever wrote, and I think she did him a great injustice treating him the way she did, so I keep writing SSHG to give him a happy ending.

I'm glad that Hermione finally told Harry about the actions of his "dear" godfather. And I adore Snape's dry wit: “I can only ascertain that you are suffering from post-traumatic delirium, my pet.” Fantastic! :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you are enjoying it.
