Wow. Tears, tears, tears. Amazing writing. I am quite new to the site and fanfics in general, but my god! I started this story last night and have barely been able to close the window. This is not the first of yours I have read, but this is certainly my favorite so far. I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind words. This has been a challenge to write, and I hope to finish it this year! I never thought it would go as far as it did, but I've been amazed at the response I've had from this story. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I have others that I will be posting later this year that I'm also very pleased with. There are some amazingly good fics on this sight. I post almost exclusively here, with a few over at FF.net.

Dear Teddy, forgive my forwardness but after having read all your wonderful stories I feel like to call you by your first name. What a unexpected gift these new chapters. Last June, I've read "Valley of pain" and knew to be patient because of the exchange challenge. So checking "Lay me Low" and finding not one but three new chapters, what a joy ! True Magic is in your art ! I have the impression that it was only yesterday that I've let your characters. They're yours now. As always, you take reader by hand in your world. I'm really happy you took time to continue this story. Is need to say I love the way you twist JKR's story ? Last sentence is so cliffy ! Poor Hermione. Thank You Dear Teddy ! Christelle PS : by the way, is your story for exchange challenge available ?

Author's Response: Christelle, please always feel free to call me Teddy! Thank you so much for your uplifting and always encouraging feedback. You always make me happy that I write. I will be updating Lay Me Low more frequently now. The exchange fic stories will start to be published starting Tuesday - I can hardly wait! They will appear first on Live Journal's SSHG_Exchange community. Please feel free to join this community - it is free and will give you so much pleasure - there are a lot of good stories on Live Journal that sometimes don't make it here, and you would love them. Thank you again for always being such a shining light to me.

Again an excellent chapter! I love how you change the original story just so much that it suits your own! The scene with Dumbledore and Snape was especially emotional and very well-written. I'm looking forward to the next update!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm finished up the next chapter today.

This is a wonderfully brilliant story. I love how you've written both Snape and Hermione. Snape is so broken at the start but it's beautiful how you can see that Hermione is healing him. I loved the twist at the end with Hermione casting the killing curse. It wonderfully done. Not what I would have thought, but wonderfully written. I can't wait for the next update. please update soon as I am dying to see more of this. expecially Harrys reactions to it. I would imagine it almost enough to break him. expecially as to him it would mimic so closely what happened to his parents. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more soon.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Whew - this was a tough chapter to write, but it really hit a chord with a lot of readers. Thank you for taking the time to write and uplift me with your encouraging words! I am feverishly writing the next two chapters, so hopefully it won't be too long before an update.

So the thing that made me first think your writing had made giant strides was your use of the intercuts, the italicized thoughts from Snape that set the pacing during the scene with Harry and Hermione. You were the master of pacing there as you brought your plotlines together. And then the way you had Snape feeling the pain behind his eyes just at the moments of highest tension with Dumbledore, yet not telling Dumbledore what was going on within himself, to double what JKR did with Harry's consciousness of Voldemort during the 7th book. I enjoyed your nod to the 8th movie with "end as we began it, together" and your foreshadowing with McGonagall saying the argument would be over by tomorrow. And then I loved how you extended and expanded everything by continuing JKR's work: what she knew Snape would be willing to do for Draco, you had Hermione do for Snape. You gave Snape room to know that he couldn't summon the hatred, even for someone who hadn't protected his wife; you let his wand falter, as JKR let Draco's; you took Snape's conflicted mission to keep Dumbledore's dignity and soul intact and replaced it with Hermione's unconflicted mission to defend the soul of her husband. You gave your readers our wish for someone to answer Snape's cry about his soul. You treated Snape as a person, a character who deserved the same almost superhuman effort that he put forth for all the others. I know this chapter took everything you had, and you say as much, but it doesn't read that way; it reads like you knew, at all times, exactly what you were doing.

It's amazing.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. It bothered my beta Jules that so many people concentrated on Hermione striking Harry ('she's just killed Dumbledore, dammit!') This was the most difficult chapter to write (so far!) but when I was done, my beta, whom I respect very much, just had three words at the end: Best. Chapter.Ever. I knew I had done what I set out to do. But, of course, even doing it for the reasons you gave, Hermione loves her husband, and cannot allow him to be known as a killer, but she is willing to risk the same for herself. It always tore my heart out how callous Dumbledore played so fast and loose with Snape's soul, because, even though he knew he was doing the old man a service, he still has to summon murder in his heart. This is something I'll address in the next chapter. Hermione still has to deal with casting the Killing Curse, which I'll explore in the next chapter, which won't be quite this exciting, but I think we all need a breather after this!
