| So it looks like Snape is just trying to stay alive, but I think it seems he wants Voldemort out of the way regardless? I'm not sure; you definately have me puzzled, but in a good way. | I like the way Hermione reacted. Very IC for how you were portraying her. I have the feeling you stopped mid-chapter. I have questions (as always), but knowing you, I'm sure they're already answered in next chapter, so I'll wait. Poor Severus, he's not good at dealing with feelings, isn't he? | Wrenching. But I don't wonder at all what Hermione's thinking! She thought he was on the Order's side, and now she finds he's playing both sides against the middle so he'd come out on top either way. AND he's expecting her to agree with him because his machinations have ensured that she will come out on top along with him. He's essentially telling her to be selfish, forget about all the people whose lives have ended, will end, or will become unlivable because of her, and then he's upset because she isn't more enthusiastic about having sex with him! (If she'd been less of a wimp she'd have screamed bloody murder when he touched her.) And he's clearly lying to her constantly at this point, telling her he didn't kill anyone, that he tried to save Hestia. Frankly, I don't think his character is--or ought to be--salvagable with her after this. I like happy endings, but the only way I can see this ending up happily is for him to die defending Harry so that Hermione can live happily ever after with Neville or Kingsley. Author's Response: Yes, I agree that he's completely insensitive to her feelings. He lied about killing someone, (I'll have who in another chapter.) but he did truly try to save Hestia, though he loathes her. I will have a happy ending for this tale, but I wonder if it will be happy for everyone? hehe | |||

| Hmm, in hindsight, I can understand why the centaurs didn't show up earlier - if they were waiting to see which side Draco and Ginny chose, then they were being rather bold to even show up without seeing D&G. I hope Hermione stops being emotional and starts analyzing their situation; Harry and Dumbledore and even Neville ARE alive, Severus is still a spy, and if Severus had helped Harry it might have left Hermione's life at risk (definitely ended his spy status). Perhaps Severus can get the other Order members to help exterminate the hidden Death Eaters, help show he's on the right side. Will he implant a false memory to Tonks, seeing that he has now told Hermione he helped Tonks? Pansy seems very vulnerable right now, with no protector - eeks! Hurry, Nay!! Thank you, SW! Author's Response: D/G still have that part to play in the story. Hermione does start thinking of things in the next chapter. A bit of sleep helps. lol... He really did Disillusion Tonks, so we'll see that in a later chapter. He mostly just lied about killing someone. I'll have who later as well. Pansy, ironically, will have a larger role soon. | |||

| Excellent chapter. I like the Severus POV in this chapter. It doesnt sound like he really understand how Hermione's feeling and how much he hurt her. He sense it, but I don't think he want to acknowledge what he did was bad. Ah, can't wait for the next chapter. I want to see how Hermione's mind is working through all this. You deserved a pat on the back b/c right now I am angry at Snape for doing what he did and being such as ass for not doing n e thing and only considering himself and hermione thru the war. | Big cheer and e-kisses for the update. My Saturday night has been brightened up no end!. Brilliant chapter as always, Hermione displaying the right amount of reticence. | Well, this is certainly twisty and turny. I'm still holding out for SS to be a good guy, yet I'm resigned that you are portraying him (accurately, per canon, more's the pity) as self-serving and out for his own benefit. I'll be looking forward to chapter 31!
