| I'm surprised I hadn't read this before, but this is really superbly written. A lot of stories try to make Severus stay on that murky line of which side he is ultimately on (especially pre-HBP ones), but I think it's difficult, for the author especially, to do that properly. I think you've pulled it off excellently, and his reasoning for his actions to remain safe on whichever side wins out, is sound and believable; I believed his motivations and his behaviour towards Hermione. Thank you for not making him too soft and fluffy, but thank you for getting him to break through himself occasionally to voice his emotion to Hermione. His difficulty in doing so really added depth to his character and the relationship. The most significant point of praise I have to give is on how you wrote Hermione's encounters with Voldemort. Unusual and very well written, particularly the setting of the garden - I felt that even I would be listening to his words with curiosity, rather than just fear. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this story, thank you for writing it. -DV |

| No one makes a speech like that to her boss unless she intends to include it with "I quit." The only possible reason for Hermione not to have been fired on the spot is because of her connections with Harry and the Minister for Magic. |

| Good to see Hermione get her come-uppance for all her whining about how Harry is so much more important than the man she claims to love. If she had just talked about defeating the Dark Lord instead of “helping Harry,” maybe she wouldn’t have been stabbing Severus in the heart so often. I honestly don’t see what either one sees in the other except hot sex. Severus will never be the emotionally open man Hermione keeps demanding, and Hermione is far too immature to suit a cynical, experienced 38-year-old. |
