Reviews for The Price of Madness

Annie Talbot2006.06.10 - 05:08AM14: Shaken UpSigned
This is a truly wonderful fic. And your Severus and Hermione (and Ron and Harry and Draco and..) are completely believable. The think I like best about it, though, is how you have used Severus's madness in this tale to show who he might *truly* be. By that I mean, if his sarcasm and cruelty is a sort of habitual or assumed shell to protect his true self from childhood bullying and adult judgment and betrayal, it seems his insanity here is a way of forcing Voldemort and the Death Eaters to NOT take him seriously, NOT see him as a threat, and NOT look too deeply. Yes, they torment him, but no, they do not fear him. I don't doubt that he's mad, you see, just as I don't doubt that "old" Severus is truly cruel and sarcastic. But the madness shell is less opaque, and one can see the true Sev erus shining through. Tender and loving and fearful. And he's perfectly believable. A triumph of writing. Happy birthday Pook, and thanks so much for the present! Your Severus is truly beautiful

Author's Response: You know, I think that you've hit the nail on the head about why I like writing Severus fics so much. I simply adore forcing him into any sort of situation that takes him out of his shell, or gives him the freedom to be more than he normally shows the world. Thank you so much for your thought-filled review and for the birthday wishes! :)

oh, poor Severus and Hermione. How are they ever going to get it together with him mad? Well, it's good to know there's still a lot of regular ole Snape left in there. And I'm glad he made her see reason; I knew he had a trick up his sleeve. Thanks for the update and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for the birthday wishes! Hmm... I'd have to say no, they aren't going the full monty with him mad, and then I'd gleefuly point out this fics rating and let you draw your own conclusions! ;) Lol, I think that Severus, mad or not, would always have a few tricks up his sleeve! Thanks! :)

Pretty chapter. I like the direction you're taking with this. Snape's sane moments, Hermione's feelings and the plot is really gripping. Happy birthday again!

Author's Response: I'm so glad that you are enjoying it, love! thanks! :)

"Can't blame a bloke for trying" indeed! I hope you have a very happy birthday, Pook. May everything you burn smell good. I'd love to see it take a while for Snape to fully trust Hermione again: follow her around a bit closer than usual, maybe hide in her room for her to go to sleep or something of the kind? Though of course I'm sure whatever you've got planned for the rest of the fic will be smashing as well.

Author's Response: Lol! I'm sure he'll keep sneaking into her room at night, but it may be just to watch her sleep! Thanks, love! :)

Happy Birthday, Pooka! This chapter was a delightful way to kick off the weekend. I continue to enjoy the interaction, angst and humor occuring between our two main protagonists. I almost snorted beer through my nose with this little snippet of dialogue:

“There is no need for me to take off my bra!” Hermione snapped. “You hurt my arms.”

“Can’t blame a bloke for trying,” Severus muttered with a sigh. “Drink this,” he said, holding out a phial.

I quite understand if you don't get anything posted on on your birthday weekend, but I'd be delighted if you do. I'm watching this story quite closely!

Author's Response: That bit made me giggle too! I won't be posting again this weekend, as I haven't started writing it yet! But I'll try to get back to it soon! Thanks! :)

Somewhat bizarrely, this is one of the most romantic stories I've ever read. Beautiful stuff.

Author's Response: What a fabulous compliment! romantic and bizzare! Perfect! :)

LOVED the scene out behind the house. Very intense and sweet. I like the bond that's forming between Hermione and Snape, in spite of the fact that he's bonkers. "What shall I do without you to help me remember myself?"–best line in the whole chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I think that was my favorite line to write! :)
