| I love this chapter. I learn to be patient with you because your snippets were thrilling but this chapter is better. And the end... my my. Snape is in love with her. No, he doesn't love her but for someone like him, it's love... And you described it very very well. Now, I will wait patiently for the next chapter... And I hope I will resist to your snippets... but i'm too curious. Damn me. | The amount of anguish that Snape has Hermione go through in this fic in incredibly frustrating when mixed in with all interferance of the characters surrounding the two. I know you're probably going to have Snape win and Hermione marry him, but I can't see that their relationship will change for the better if he insists on remaining ever the asshole he's been throughout. And of course, poor Hermione will have to endure everything while a meddling Albus and others pat her on the back and tell her to bear up. And now even her parents will be doing that, too.---
Fics like these are really frustrating, especially when Hermione's character insists on being incredibly weak. The endings tend to be very weak compared to all the angst that preceded. There were some chapters where I just wanted to slap her as she went on reminding me of many weak and stupid women in reality who allow men to walk all over them, get away with a number of horrible things and hurt them. They sign away their souls to these men for the few meager scraps of bone thrown their way. But I find it even more horrible when an innocent child is brought into the picture. It's horrible enough that a woman will allow such a man to constantly hurt her, but that's her life and her business. But to allow that same man to hurt an innocent child is despicable. ---
I know that there is something to be said for Snape's struggles, but that old brooding-dark-past excuse has been milked so many times that authors don't bother to convince us of any virtue of his character at all. We all have to assume the best of him as we read. For me, it is usaully the lack of conviction that turns the ending weak in other stories. I hope that does not happen in this one becuase I'm actually rooting for Snape -- not the one that insists on manipulating everything to simply possess her, but the one I assume is underneath all his paranoia and vindictiveness, who will come to realize that all his games exist simply to mask from himself and others his real feelings and his real desire to have her will him. But it would be nice to stop having to make assumptions on behalf of his sorry ass and start being convinced!---
I know you probably have everything planned already and somehow Snape's going to "come around," as I'm sure Albus will predict patronizingly to Hermione. But, for all the anguish he's caused her and probably will cause her before he does "come around," he's going to have to do something pretty big and pretty great in order to redeem himself and make things up to her to make it right. This is my hope, however much it has been disappointed by other such stories. Author's Response: yay! Thanks for the lengthy review. I do love it, but where to start? hehe About Hermione's weakness, well, right. I was trying to touch upon a relationship that wasn't like some fairytale. Unfortunately, some are just like this in real life (know from experience). This is a slow change story. He won't wake up one morning and said, "My God! I love you. Let me make up for my past deeds!" When he does tell her that he loves her, it will be in a way that is acceptable to this story. I would hope that my ending won't be weak, but that will be for you to decide once I get there. As far as Hermione, well, she's had enough of being a doormat, and it's time that Snape sees what Ron Weasley means by "Brilliant but scary." hehehe The Snape that you know and love is under there, but he'll have to find a way to come out. I'm going to keep weaving a tale here where each chapter shows slight progress (Snape realizing things; Hermione holding her own). In the end, I should hope that it will be a good match. As far as others interfering, well, that won't be for much longer. School is out for summer term, and it will just be the two of them. As far as his past, I'm playing upon his ruddy childhood and rough father, nothing more. If I've missed something, I'm sorry! Ask away anytime. I don't mind. | |||

| Ooooh, I loved it. Mr. Determined. Honestly, I'd pick Harry. Good thing its Hermione and not me...HEE! Yes, I think Severus was sneaky and I look forward to reading what her parents will say. Hee again! Severus' denial about being in love with Hermione really comes through well, under the surface he really is in love. *sigh* I'm a CK1 fan, but the Scotsman likes Kuoros(sp)(stinky). I sort of wanted her to be with harry lol.. i'm naughty though. he does love her, but I think he just can't recognize it lol silly man. | I don't expect a sweet man but the selfishness in this chapter *shudder* Is the comedy gone for good?
