| Great story and interesting concept. Was quite spellbinding (pardon the pun). Was wondering if it would be explained why Snape was able to calm Hermione down. Could that be a prat of a different story?

| You have no idea how many times I was going to stop and review while I was reading this... though in compensation for those numbers I shall instead leave you a long and exacting review at the end.
I really liked this story. Characterisation and concept both get ruddy big ticks from me. I thought the OC of the Firewalker was great (it can be hard to integrate them into a fic) and I just love Islander patois. Although you didn't use it so much as to be indecipherable it was still enough to hear the accent in the head. Have you ever seen 'Meet Joe Black'? Great movie, and Brad Pitt doing the patois is something yummy that cannot be missed... *drools*
It was good to read a story with actual spelling and punctuation - although of course it's what you generally expect with ashwinder. But I've been reading a lot on ffnet which is generally populated by a lot of inept dunderheads so it's particularly refreshing not to have something pull me out of the flow every other paragraph. What can I say... I'm an english freak. In fact, the only thing I particularly noticed word-wise was one phrase where you said something about Severus having his 'masque' back in place. Masque being traditionally the party where masks were worn, not a mask in itself. Although even in that context it kinda works: god knows if anyone possessed a Venetian Ball's worth of masks it would be Severus Snape. And in the matter of Severus Snape's emotions, making Hermione an empath was a stroke of genius; really what it needed to bring them together.
I was a little disappointed however through the lemony-relationship chapters (and I NEVER say that!) Not to say that the smuttishness wasn't extremely gratifying, but there was such a wasted opportunity! Hermione's newfound powers didn't really come into play at all through that part of the story. I would have loved to have seen it explored in all its potential depths. But never-to-mind... I still enjoyed reading it very much.

This is definitely the longest review I have ever had the pleasure of reading! You rock! I'm thrilled that you liked it. I'm glad you liked Andrene's patois, and you hit the nail on the head with your comments. I was going for a feel for the language, just enough to give it a bit of flavor without being too confusing. Much as an actor puts on an accent. Often, if the accent is too real, the audience can't understand what is being said; so the actor softens it, giving it the flavor of the true accent. I'm glad you found it effective! I'm afraid I've never seen "Meet Joe Black" but it sounds like I ought to. I went a bit insane with Andrene, as I know nothing of Jamaica or patois, but I just couldn't resist creating her! Ashwinder is wonderful for reading fics that aren't full of jarring errors. I stopped reading at ffnet long ago, it's just too hard to sift through the mass of sloppily written fics and find the good stuff. Now, don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful that there are sites where anyone can post. I just prefer reading at the sites with submission rules, and Ash is very careful about keeping things tidy. I’d be lost without a beta reader. Oh, my work has certainly gotten cleaner as I’ve gotten practice, but my problem is that I simply don’t see the errors when I proofread. I probably proof a chapter 5-10 times before I send it to a beta, and there are still oddities! In fact, I think it was my beta that suggested “masque”, and I must admit that I like the way it scans. The French is simply prettier. Lol, not that I intend to start scattering French through my writing, patois was hard enough! You know, I planned to add Hermione’s gift into the naughty-bits, but it just didn’t turn out that way. My stubborn Hermione was being awfully adamant about not using her gift to spy on folks without good reason, so I let that idea slip by the wayside. I hate it when the characters don’t seem to want to listen to me! Lol! For example, I had thought to get to the naughty bits far sooner than I did, but they were both being too pig headed!
