Reviews for Naked Journey

Another wonderful chapter... I really enjoyed the by-plays throughout, including his amusement at her feeding him, rolling her eyes at his churlishness... their discourse regarding the Snape-compass and his open compliments and assessment at her being Arthimency Master material and offer to write a letter on her behalf... of course, the more intimate moments were once again... charming... Thanks!

Author's Response: I had big fun writing that chapter. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :)

Very charming chapter... I loved Albus and Minerva dancing for joy, Hermione leaving Severus her wand and his reaction to it, and the 20 points deduction for cuddling with him, not to mention their musings about the other!

Author's Response: I couldn't resist that point deduction. A bit predictable, perhaps, but so much fun! Thanks! :)

Thinking about Snape being juvenile, I see your point, I always viewed Snape’s favouritism and unfair behaviour, etc., as being part of his Death Eater persona; however, juvenile works too… It’s true that Albus, at somewhere around 150, is the mature one. The one thing that has nagged in the back of my mind is, why hasn’t Albus been able to do anything, except to owl another Potions Master and have the Aurors check the Potions Lab (reminded me of CSI) to see if they could trace the magic to Snape; after all, Albus is the most powerful wizard and he is seemingly incapacitated. I’m sure he must be doing something more in the background, besides watching his clock; although I do love that clock! Although the end of this chapter seems to lend itself to the idea that Albus felt that Snape’s best chance at happiness was for Hermione to find him. That being said, it appeared that he truly meant to dissuade the trio from going after him. Bob’s death and Sevres’s reaction to it… so said… well portrayed…

Author's Response: Glad you are still speaking to me after what I did to Bob. There was quite a kerfuffle after I wrote that chapter, but I thought it necessary. As for Albus, no one is all powerful. Despite CSI and all the tricks muggles have at their command, they fail to solve the majority of crimes they are presented with. I think there is a trend in fanfic to believe that magic is easy, that it can accomplish anything, but I disagree with that. Sure it can do some amazing things, but a post Owl still can't find anyone who is lost or hidden, and neither can my Albus. Luckily for Severus, his fate depends on a "math nerd" and not his headmaster. *giggle* Besides, it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun if Albus or the Aurors had simply found him and brought him home! And I could not deny the heartwrenching despair of the strong, accomplished man who is nevertheless made helpless in some situations. My Albus is a bit of a tarnished being, but I like him that way. Thanks again for another thought provoking review! :)

How very convenient that hippogriffs are not in the habit of looking down!!! Bob thinking of Snape as his pet… in keeping with our (human’s) favourite way of imagining that our dogs think of us. Great synopsis (from his POV) of the evolution of Hermione’s feelings for Severus, it’s amazing how in tune he is with her… His fake detentions and her response to them etc. – surprisingly juvenile from a man like Snape, but all the more endearing, not to mention this bit of background makes their future relationship (hopefully an intimate and passionate one…) plausible, not seemingly premature or one to make Severus appear shallow, especially when combined with Hermione’s POV and Snape’s deportment of a perfect gentleman… like I said, writing prowess! Also, remembering to have Hermione cast wards around her sleeping area… Good call, you were thinking like a witch, not a muggle! Are Glaistigs your creation or a part of mythology? I am assuming that Catoblepas are your creation as they are very convenient to the world of Hogwarts with their dragon-like hide and diet of poisonous plants which are well known to reside in the Forbidden Forest. “Beware Severus Snape, your fate comes stalking...and it's wearing hiking boots.” Best Line of the story so far!!!

Author's Response: So much to say! I'll start from the end of your lovely review and work my way backwards. I love that line, and I'm thrilled you got a kick out of it. Believe it or not, all the odd beasties in this story come from one mythology or another. The Catoblepas comes from the Greeks. So, while I cannot take credit for inventing the beastie, I shall be happy to take credit for choosing a beastie which you believe fits the Hogwart’s world so well. Glaistigs are from Scottish legend and are spoken of either as fairy creatures of as witches. Lol, I’d like to think that Hermione would take some care of her sleeping arrangements after the Hippogriff incident. I liked the thought of Hippogriffs, being tree dwellers, not looking down. I thought it made a nice counterpoint to the fact that humans so rarely look up. I’m glad you enjoyed that bit. surprisingly juvenile from a man like Snape Is it really? Now, there are many things I admire about Severus Snape, but I do indeed find him amazingly juvenile for a man of his age. In fact, that is one of the reasons that I think nearly 40, in wizarding terms, must still be very young. I find that Snape and most of his contemporaries act terribly juvenile with their petty squabbles and grudges. But then, boys never really grow up, do they? *giggle* I’m glad you are enjoying the fact that both Hermione and Severus are already curious about each other when the tale starts. I wanted this fic to start with at least interest of some sort on both sides. Makes it all that more easy to throw them at each other later on! ;) Thanks for another lovely review! :)

I did notice that this was your first story and I am suitably impressed! You will find that I am quite willing to recognize fan fiction as fantasy; therefore, we can't expect to apply logic as we would in real life... it is a nice change to be able to accept things as presented, rather than be critically scrutinizing every word and action for plausibility! I was also impressed by your application of the conceptual world of Hogwarts curriculum with the practical... developing a charm and arithmency spell to make a "Snape compass"!! I do know how difficult it can be to bring the theoretical into practical... trying to explain to my 15 year old son the practical use of algebra; although, my dilemma quickly resolved when he decided that his chosen career path is to create video games (computer/PS2 etc.)... Algebra = programming!!! Now he really has to apply himself to not only algebra, but the pure sciences as well!!

Author's Response: You poor thing! To have a son who wants to be a game builder! You'll have to listen to unending conversations which involve nothing but math! (I know, my fiance is a game developer, and I confess, I do a lot of smiling, nodding, and saying "yes dear".) I wish I'd had your son's help when I wrote that "Snape compass" scene. That was easy to conceptualize, but difficult to write, as I am not mathmatically inclined in the least. So I settled for non-mathmatical descriptions. In this tale, Hermione may be a "math nerd' but I am not! I'm glad you thought it didn't go awry. Thanks for yet another kind review, they mean a lot to me! :)

What a moment of self-realisation for Severus, he was utterly alone – and he felt lonely… I wondered immediately why the unicorn was so interested in Snape, especially after Professor GrubbyPlank subbed for Hagrid and we learned that unicorns inherently distrust men and really only trust virgin girls… what a lovely demonstration of Severus’s true essence… This chapter was a sensitive portrayal of so many… Albus “…a trembling hand passed over his eyes…”, Harry watched for Hermione pining for Severus, so he could support her by patting her arm or squeezing her hand… not to mention the other staff… “Bob’s puppy-like demeanor…” I believe I mentioned in a previous review that I thought the unicorn acted like a pet dog with Snape… more proof of your writing prowess…

Author's Response: I couldn't resist making Severus unicorn catnip. I decided that even if unicorns were usually ridiculously gender biased, there must be some exceptions to the rule. *giggle* Oh, and writing prowess my arse! You do know that this is the first story I ever wrote don't you? Now don't get me wrong, I'm terribly, terribly fond of it; like a mother with a rather unattractive baby. But it does have it's troubles here and there. However, if you enjoy it, then I shall coo over the thing like any proud mama. Thank you for the sweet and thought-filled review! I can only hope that you shall forgive me for future chapters... *wg* Thanks! :)

I love Hermione's realistic view of herself, Snape, and her declaration of love and explanation. Well written. Thanks!

Author's Response: Thank you for all of your thoughtful reviews! :)

Loved Dumbledore's clock... and the unicorn trying to wake Severus up, but then laying down by him while he slept and then licking him when he awoke, like a dog...

Author's Response: I still love that unicorn. He was big fun to write. Thanks for the sweet review! :)
