Reviews for A Time to Trust

YAY! Finding that you have updated always brings a smile to my face. Great Chapter! I got a little misty reading it. Anything that has to do with the Potters makes me a bit sad, knowing everything that they are going to loose and all. Anyways, keep up the great work!

Author's Response: I think Hermione feels the same way you do about the Potters. I got overly sentimental writing this chapter, too. Thanks for reviewing!

Just beautifully written. I can't wait for the next installment. You have definitely set up the loving family perfectly. Poor Hermione to know what's going to happen and to know that she can't do anything about it.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked my portrayal of Harry's family. I think it makes it that much more painful when his loss comes about... and that much harder for Hermione in the meantime. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

What a wonderfully bittersweet scene! I'm thoroughly enjoying this little jaunt of yours into the past.

Author's Response: Bambu! I'm so glad you're reading this. I have to admit I'm growing scared of this story. It's taking much longer to get anywhere than I had expected... and I've got a lot of ground to cover. Yikes! Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying this trip to the past and the tragically sentimental scene of the last chapter. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review! Now go write more of the Summoning... :)

*takes a deep breath and smiles contently* Aww...such a well written and beautiful chapter. You really do make my day with this story! Keep it up...

Author's Response: I'm so glad you like the story. It was fun writing this overly sentimental chapter. Thanks!

I like that you don't let Hermione say a word for the future. It is the right thing to do for Hermione. I like the scene in the Potter's house. But as much as I liked it - I missed Severus in this chapter. Please write soon!

Author's Response: Yeah, I think she's going to stay pretty close-lipped about the future, as hard as it may be. And Severus is definitely back in the next chapter. Thanks!

Nothing really terrible happened in that chapter, but I think it was one of the saddest I've ever read. It's like watching "Titanic." Even though you know what happens in the end, you still get caught up in the story and hope that miraculously things won't end the way that you know they will. This chapter was so sad because despite how much I wish that I could forget what will happen, I can't, and knowing that things were so wonderful before "it" happends makes "it" all the more terrible. Wonderfully written chapter. Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I felt the same way when writing this scene. It would be easier if their lives were awful, but we know from canon that they loved Harry very much. I wanted to show a very loving familyy that will unfortunately be destroyed by Voldemort. The next chapter steers away from the sentimentality, though, so hopefully it won't be as sad. :) Thanks!

I guess Dumbledore is attempting to help give Lily and James more quality time alone, which allows him to make sure Harry is "the one" from Hermione. I'm sure he will do everything he can to ensure they live their remaining life to the fullest. It is all so tragic. Knowledge of the future would be a great burden. What is Severus up to?

Author's Response: Yes, although Dumbledore does not want to know the future outright, he is not above using Hermione for clues. :) And the saddest thing (or one of them for me anyway) is that he doesn't know James and Lily are going to die. He only suspects they (and Harry) are in danger. Severus will be back in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

I’m sorry I haven’t reviewed much lately. Life’s been busy, and I haven’t had much chance to read lately. But even so, I still cheer when I see a chapter has been added to this story, even if it’s a while before I have the chance to read it. As it is, I’ve stayed up much later than I should have tonight to catch up on the last few chapters and drop you this review. I’m sure I’ll hate myself first thing tomorrow, but after this beautiful chapter, I’m certainly smiling now. There’s so much in these latest chapters to nibble and savor, that I’m afraid I don’t have time to touch on all of it. So I’ll just briefly cover the three things that most stood out to me. My favorite line: “’His name is Harry,’ Lily said quietly. ’Harry James Potter,’ James added, the pride evident in his voice. ’Harry Potter,’ Hermione repeated, running her fingers over his forehead. No scar. No angry red lightning bolt marking him as famous or cursed or destined. Just soft baby skin. Hermione bent her head down and kissed him softly in the middle of his forehead.” I love this catalog of names – each capturing a different facet of Harry’s character. But only Hermione understands the emblematic consequence of the last permutation. This whole scene with Harry meeting Hermione for the first time is very poignant and bittersweet. Somehow the soothing, tragic lullaby “Rock-a-bye Baby” has never seemed so appropriate. I also appreciate Hermione’s reflections on how little time she has spent with Dumbledore personally. Many fanfic authors that write from a non Harry-centric perspective tend to forget that Harry has an unusual amount of personal contact with the Headmaster. I miss some of the Hermione/Snape interaction. It seems that their friendship is mostly growing “off camera” so to speak. I’d like to see a bit more of how a reclusive Death Eater and a pushy know-it-all time traveler manage to strike up enough conversation to get to know each other personally, instead of just reacting to plot developments. What do they talk about, given how secretive they both are? That said, the snippets you are giving us are captivating and tantalizing as usual.

Author's Response: Yay! I'm glad you're back to reading and reviewing my story even if it means you stayed up really late. I apologize for your sleepiness. And I think you're awesome. Having said that, on to the comments. I'm so glad you commented on the name permutations. That was the most poignant part for me, too. To Lily, he is simply "Harry." He's her adorable baby. Love is simple, so is his name. For James, he's a source of pride, proof that James not only has the love he always wanted but a son to carry on his name, go on to possibly play Seeker at Quidditch, etc. But Hermione, knowing the future, senses a sadness is his name being possibly the most well-known name in the Wizarding World due to the tragedy that befell his famiy. And he's also her friend, her friend who has a name that follows him like the plague sometimes. And then, of course, I liked the idea of her seeing him without that telltale scar that not only marks him for destiny but for a life always in the limelight. I'm glad you liked "Rock-a-bye Baby." I wasn't sure if that was overduing it, but I liked bringing a bit of the Muggle world and its weird children's stories and lullabyes into this scene. Writing Dumbledore - and his relationship with Hermione - is difficult but fun. It will be interesting to see how that relationship progresses. And Severus will be back with lots of Hermione interaction in chapter eleven! I just felt like this chapter was for Hermione's story. But yes, next chapter, we'll find out more on what they've been up to and get some one-on-one banter and such. Thanks as always for your thoughtful review!
