Reviews for A Knock On The Door

Oh it was wonderful! And from all the theories I heared of until know, I like yours best. And I can belive it ... oh it was just wonderful. But the end is very sad .... I know I have a tragic fantasy but the only thing I can imagine is, that outside is a deatheater or Voldie himself, caught dem in the act and kill them both *grief* but maybe not .... :-( Wonderful ... will look if other stories from you are out there

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I'm sure the twist JKR has planned is much better than mine (she always surprises, doesn't she?), but I have a sneaking suspicion that Albus isn't dead and Sev and he were in on a plan. I have no idea who is at the door. It could even be Harry. It could be one of those Muggle Salespersons. Who knows? (Slytherin would be proud of me, for leaving the readers with such an ending). Thanks for reading my story. Lol.

It's refreshing to find a story that picks up where canon ends instead of being AU. You've done a very interesting job of weaving together many theories I'm familiar with and one, maybe two, I've neither read nor thought of before. You're probably not surprised nor even expecting your readers to nod their heads in agreement. Personally, I dislike the LOLLIPOPS theory although I appreciate the arguments that it could explain alot of things. Having said that, I enjoyed reading your story. I particularly liked the 'duel' between the characters; the spells rang true and you gave Hermione some power and some good tricks. You've portrayed her as the risk-taker I think she may become. You also did a good job of keeping SS in character, suspicious bordering on paranoid, menacing, self-loathing, angry, driven, and very pessimistic about what lies ahead of him. Hermione's belief in DDM!Snape reflects the conclusions and feelings of a multitude of nearly obsessed fans of this character. May she be right and may he survive (please, JKR). Thanks for a great read. casey P.S. I loved this line: 'taste my consent.' ooooooooh!

Author's Response: Thanks for your review. This story is the only one I've written since HBP. I was so shocked by the second chapter 'Spinner's End', that I just had to get my views out there. I don't necessarily agree with all the theories myself, it's just how I brought everything in to fit together. (Hermione thinking the writing in the book looks like a girl's worries me a great deal.) Not sure what the 'LOLLIPOPS' theory is you mention, but I'm guessing it's the Snape/Lily thread. The problem there is, if it turns out to be right and Snape did have a thing with Lily, there will be a collective groan from all of Fanficdom and a cry of 'that's so cliche' (poor JK. Although, serves her right, if she kills off Snape). Unfortunately, I do see him heading for his doom in book seven - hopefully though, falling as a hero. I have to admit that when Hermione blurts out 'promise you'll do your best to survive this war', it was a heartfelt cry from my own heart, too. Snape has always fascinated me, right from book one, even before Mr. Rickman's input (*sigh*). He was always going to be a main player, and I believe book seven will be just as much Snape's story, as Harry's. As for murdering Dumbledore - a friend recently pointed out that Harry doesn't hear any 'stampede' noise that is connected to the Avada curse, and that all the victims we've witnessed so far (the Riddle's caretaker; the spider; Cedric Diggory) have just fallen down dead on the spot, not been blown over the battlements in a 'Kerpow!' moment like Dumbledore was. So my hopes are high. And just between you and me - I REALLY enjoyed writing the 'taste my consent' line. Thanks for enjoying it too. Thank you for a very thought provoking review. Lol.

"I told Harry the handwriting in the book looked like a girl's. It was hers, wasn't it? Lily wrote the spells down." " > Oh my God! Just for those lines, this story is great... lol! I totally agree with you on that point, (I had never thought about it!) and on the fact that Severus was in love with Lily. I love your theories (the horxcruxe: WAOW! You should sen this fiction to JKR, she would have to re-write her story to keep the surprise!lol). Your story is really interesting and well writed (well, ok, exciting too!lol). The only negative point I have to say is that I can't imagine them suddenly want to have sex like that. But that's just for the story, isn't it? ;) Ah yes and the Potter working for Voldemort: er...no...lol! Oh and the awful end, I hate you, write the sequel, NOW!lol! I think it's time for a new translation, Siryanne...lol! Oh, BTW, Last Tango is published on ff.net and The petulant poetess. I'm waiting for the publication here. Thank you again!

Author's Response: Admittedly, the sex was originally included to sell the story (and because I enjoy writing it!). I'd planned it to be one of those strange occurances where they just took the moment, but then I realised that Hermione could use his belief that he had planned to rape her as her arguement against his other belief that he'd murdered Albus. James working for Voldemort is a bit dodgy in my mind, but I really believe that James was not the golden boy everyone paints him to be. There's something darker. Showing off Snape's underwear just for the hell of it was a really nasty thing to do - and look at all the times James's name turned up in that Crime and Punishment index. There's something not quite nice about James. The end had to be like that. I wanted to bring the whole story around in a circle. Thanks for such a lovely review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story (and the theory). I didn't realise it was you who'd reviewed until half way through reading. Thanks for looking in, and Happy New Year. Lol.

10 10 10 10 10! Oh my goodness, I love this piece! That's a brilliant theory, and one I haven't seen before: the two Horcruxes. Brilliant. And your characterizations are wonderful. Snape denies, evades, ridicules: wonderful. Interesting spin on the James/Lily dynamic, too. I'd love to see that particular idea explored a bit more, if you're stuck for a idea someday. But as is, this is a wonderful piece of work. Even the ending. While it is cruel, anything different would have weakened the story, I think. The whole piece is tensionfilled, and ending it that way fits. Going on to deal with the new person at the door would be even worse than them going their separate ways, as it would draw out the impact and lessen it. You chose wisely. I'm curious as to how many hours you spent on it, incidentally. It feels like you spent time framing it before you wrote it, as all the pieces fit together so well. Wonderful bit of writing.

Author's Response: I love long reviews like yours that make me think a bit more about my response. Firstly, thanks for such a lovely review. I'm really glad you liked the story. I was so shocked by the contents of chapter two of HBP (Spinner's End), that I spent the entire book ignoring Harry and instead, searching for clues of Snape's loyalty to Dumbledore. This is the theory I came up with, and I had to share it somehow, and so 'A Knock On The Door' came to be. So yes, I suppose you could say I spent a while thinking about the theories, but the actual story was written quite quickly. It worries me how much I enjoy writing Snape and how easily his quips and barbed comments flow from my pen - am I really as nasty as that?! I'm not quite sure about James being evil, but from what JK has told us, he isn't the golden boy everyone talks about. There was a darker side, and I feel sure something vital will be found in that index of punishments Harry was sorting for Snape in HBP. It was such a dead-end thread otherwise. I'm fully prepared for Snape to be out for himself and working towards being the next great dark wizard, but I will not accept him ending up on the side of Voldemort. If JK sends him in that direction, I shall feel terribly let down. I just keep telling myself there's something huge about Snape's repentence that Dumbledore didn't tell Harry. And that is the big piece of puzzle and why Dumbledore 'trusts Severus Snape completely.' Thanks for such a wonderful and interesting review. I really enjoyed it. Lol.

Very cruel ending -- way to get us wanting more even though we know we won't be getting it. =P This is the first post-HBP fic I've read, and I like it! I love how you've weaved it together with everything that is going on or will be going on in canon. I only wish this were true! *crosses fingers* I know Snape isn't evil, he just CAN'T BE -- I LOVE HIM TOO MUCH. Haha.

Author's Response: I agree with you - Snape just can't be on Voldie's side, I won't allow it! I don't mind if he's bad and out for himself, but he mustn't be with the Dark Lord. Thanks so much for your review. Lol.

....interesting....

Author's Response: thanks.

Wow. I don't normally do het, but when I do, it's usually this pairing, and stories like this one are why. "The insufferable-know-it-all" brings out something so delicious in Snape, doesn't she? Forceful and snarky as in canon, but sexy as hell. And this story was gorgeously sexy, but I wouldn't call it PWP. Far from it. I like your theories; they're quite plausible. I don't think James will turn out to be the bad guy (darn!), but Severus/Lily WILL be canon. Count on it. Best line: "That's enough! I have little idea where you are going with this inane babbling, but you will not demote my past to a schoolgirl's fiction." Classic!

Author's Response: I've got so used to thinking of Sev and Hermione as soul-mates, it's going to be a funny kind of shock when she goes hand in hand with Ron in book seven. And yes, wouldn't it be just great if James did turn out bad? Thanks so much for a really lovely review. It made this author beam. Lol.
