Reviews for The Absinthe of Reason

Humor, Romance, and a Twist of Angst! Prepared at room temperature, then gradually brought up to a nice, simmering, steamy roiling heat. My favorite sort of fanfic cocktail.

Very good fic, I'm looking forward to reading your other story. I got sucked into this one simply the by the title: The Absinthe of Reason. With a name like that the story had to be great!

Author's Response: I'm so glad that the recipe was to your liking! Thank you very much for reviewing and for the copliment on the title- I tried out a few other absinthe puns (e.g., The Absinthe Minded Professor), but this one seemed to fit the best.

As with all things we come to an end... sigh. It's been great to re-read this fabulous tale. I notice some small changes, but by and large 'tis the same story I've enjoyed so many times.< br>
I have one small critical nitpick... and then I shall duck for cover. When Hermione comes to the Great Hall for lunch, why are they eating porridge?

Otherwise, I love it when Severus questions Hermione about what the entire event means to her... and your last two paragraphs which let us all know that what might have begun as a competition ended with a commitment.

Author's Response: You pick a very good nit. :) I guess I pictured the food at Hogwarts as being similar to what I had at University (i.e., breakfast food was available at all times on weekends), so Hermione has porridge for dinner toward the beginning and Ginny threatens Dennis with oatmeal at lunch toward the end. I honestly don't know how UK boarding schools do it, and it's a good point. (I'm hitting the Britpick threads at FictionAlley Park). I love love love your description of the final paragraphs. I'm kicking around the idea of an epilogue and/or additions to the last chapter, and I'd love to use what you wrote (credited, naturally). Would that be OK? To finish this response, I give you my greatest thanks, my biggest bear hugs, and more pestering for more writing from you! :D

"Bravo, Bravo" I've read this somewhere before and I enjoyed just as much this time around as I did the first time. Thank you so much for sharing this with al of us. I can't wait to see what you come up with in the future.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! This is the gamma version, which is to say, a more polished version than the one posted elswhere, and with far fewer mistakes, thanks to the excellent SH admin staff. Thank you so much for your kind words! It makes me feel, well, like writing! :D

Actually, Oh Best Beloved, when I saw the chapter called Bananas Taste Just So I was reminded of a sickly sweet bright green liqueur (so only suitable for Dumbledore) flavoured with bananas called Pisang Ambon. But I digress..... H.E.R.P.E.S. and the "Terminally Lightfingered" (insert name of co-worker) made me laugh, and the end needs an epilogue to show us how Slytherin and Gryffindor can live happily ever after.....

Author's Response: Much much love to you for the Kipling! I admit to a bit of morbid curiosity regarding Pisang Ambon. If I see it listed as an ingredient in a drink with an umbrella, I must try it! But all that aside, your idea for the epilogue is amazing. I've been trying for ages to think of something else for the end, which is definitely rushed. I promise to credit you if I'm able to make it work! Thank you so much!!

I love the Limerick Lozenge, that is an awsome Weasley Wheeze!

Author's Response: Whee! I wrote a sweet called "limerick lemons" into my very first fanfic, which isn't that good. I liked the idea too much to leave there. Amusingly, at least to me, in that fic, Snape helps Fred and George design them. :) Of course, one of my motivations for making them up was Tom Stoppard's play "Travesties," which contains a scene spoken entirely in limericks. However, I think that's a self-challenge for another story. :D Thank you so much for reviewing!

Oh, what to say?? A fascinating end to a wonderful story. This really does leaving one wanting more. And the Carmina Burana at the end was a nice touch; never seen that in fanfic before!

Author's Response: It's funny- Carmina is something that so many people recognize from the opening chord, but the text is still fairly obscure. I feel pretty lucky to have found a movement that suited the end in a way that was romantic, but not purely lascivious. I think I'm going to have to add on things to the end, either in epilogue form or by adding bits to the final chapter. Thank you so much for your kind words and for your review!

What a fascinating twist! I didn't see that coming.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for coming along for the whole ride. I'm glad you found it fascinating, and I'm so grateful to you for reviewing!

Now that was sudden! But then again a combination of Slytherin and Gryffindor in all aspects is what we need.

Author's Response: I'm wondering (especially in light of several comments similar to yours) if it wasn't too sudden. Hmm.. must think of ways to flesh out the ending. But I'm very glad that you found the Slytherin/Gryffindor surprise satisfying. Thank you so much for all of your reviews!
