| I understand and yet he didn't text her on Christmass day. He moped ... and she waited for him to take the initiative and text her. No doubt he would have responded if she had texted him (just as he did when her father texted him) but he needs to move past responding to initiating. Otherwise, it is all on Hermione's shoulders to make progress in the realtionship happen. That is the way a guy acts if "he is just not into you." I get what you are saying that he is cautious until he is sure but he needs to ask himself "what is it going to take before I become an initiator in this relationship?" If he is waiting for some sign that will never come (like, she needs to throw away her life and live only for me), then he needs to reassess what is reasonable. I've been around people like this. They leave everything up to the other person (including the blame when things go wrong). They aren't worth the effort until they are willing to become an equal partner in making the relationship work. Author's Response: He wasn't sure of his welcome. I do promise that he's making strides in the next two chapters, and that Hermione does take him to task about it. He's always been slower I mean, we get the impression that he watched Lily for ages before even trying to talk to her. We get the idea that he NEVER mentioned his feelings for her, even if she may have found them obvious (teenage boys aren't very subtle) - every time he puts himself on the line, he gets the short end of the stick. Do keep in mind, we don't see every day - just the parts I show. Behind the scenes, I'm certain he issues the invitations to lunch, or initiates letters, etc. | |||

| It seems as if Hermione has been the one to take the initiative for bringing about each of their interactions. It is time for him to start. everything can't be her responsibility. Author's Response: It may seem that way, but, really, it isn't. She opens doors, let's him know they're there, and he has to take them. From what we know, he doesn't take action, much, when it comes to his feelings. He's very guarded. As he gets more comfortable and "safe", he'll definitely take charge more. Otherwise, he won't go where he's not sure he's welcome. :) For him, inviting her to his home was HUGE, after all! And he continues to write, ask questions, start discussions, so he's not entirely passive. He's just much more cautious and subtle than she is. :) | |||
