| Ooo... *shivers* Damn fine chapter. I've always thought that were Snape to be a true Death Eater, he'd be excellent at interrogation and torture, because while I doubt he'd be as physically abusive as some of his more violent colleagues, I always thought he'd excel at mental abuse and keeping people off-balance. Pure physical abuse you can steel your mind against to some extent, whereas I imagine it would be much harder to guard against someone who is constantly swinging from rage to almost tenderness, as Snape seems to be doing. Though here he seems to be becoming unbalanced by her as well based on how he stutters ("Y-your - your cunt, stupid girl!") and by how thrown he is by his physical reaction to her and how he can't to bring himself to act out the role he intended to play by insulting and spurning her. Interesting that he may not have intended to rape her at all, but was caught off balance by her desire and had to flip it at the end to assert his control. Again, the contrast at the end between the kiss between the shoulder blades and his silky voice and his cold, cruel words made me shiver, and how heartbreaking for Hermione to think on how “it felt real,” like genuine desire. I hope she doesn’t end up killing herself, though it’s hard to ask for a happy ending. Still, thank you so much for writing for us, and I’ll be looking forward to the next chapter! Yes, I think Severus would learn early to use his assets (his intellect, his voice, etc) to manipulate and keep the status quo anything but! | Mmm, I do enjoy a good dark fic, either with a genuinely dark, bastard Snape or one that's more just seriously misguided. I can't tell for sure which way this story's going to go yet. The gentle, almost caring way he inspects Hermione's injuries contrasts sharply with his crude comment on her tightness and being "of some use after all." Also interesting that he seems angry at her in particular. Misdirected anger for Harry losing the war? Hmm. I liked the details of the too-short bed and Snape cooling the water down to a lukewarm temperature. I also like that Hermione is genuinely feeling lost and afraid (right now at least) instead of proud and defiant. Gryffindor or not, that's a tramatizing experience for anyone to go through, especially with losing her friends (...and parents too? Poor Hermione.) and her reaction seems very realistic.
