With everything else that went on in this chapter, while I was reading the reviews, I actually sat back in my chair and laughed-- because when you wrote that, you sounded like Albus Dumbledore. XP This chapter has definitely changed their relationship dynamics... and as for Lucius... well, we're not supposed to trust him in the first place, so now we just have to figure out what he's up to. o-o;

That sentence right there rather sums up the brilliance of your writing. This story is dark, and the topic is quite sick no matter how you look at it, but the way you write it is well and truly brilliant. This isn't just some darkfic with someone throwing rape and torture in for fun-- the way you write it is just... interwoven. It goes a lot deeper than the surface. And to top it all off, Snape does seem to have lost some of his sanity at this point. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the next chapters. Author's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. I truly aspire to be a better writer, and this is the most enjoyable way to build those skills! I truly hope that I can make things clearer in later chapters, poor Severus and I know what's going on in our heads, now the fun part will be explaining it! | |||

| Hmm Teddy. I can't quite work it out yet. At first I thought that there may have been some sort of "magical webcam" watching their every move and so he had to act like he does. But your insight into his thoughts would appear to dispel this. He does realise the damage that he is probably/definitely inflicting upon Hermione and yet also seems to feel sorry for himself in the process. Now then if he were just anyone we would not have ANY sympathy for him but we know he is damaged goods as well. The "Lily" episode....... I'd have been surprised if he could ever respond to her sexually as I think he revered her too much and put her on an undeserved pedestal. He is clearly confused by his feelings for Hermione but his sanity does seem very fragile at the moment. He is also coming across as if he doesn't have any formulated plan to try to get them out of this mess and actually I find this wholly realistic and refreshing. Is this a Severus functioning purely on instinct? I can't wait to find out how this one is going to pan out.

Author's Response: Ali, not to worry, the next two chapters will either reveal all, or I will be shot down in so many flames you'll never see me again. There is a lot going on here, and it makes sense in my head - let's hope what I have written will explain things sufficiently in the end. If not, I solemnly swear I will pull the story and not inflict it upon anyone ever again! ;) And yes, this is a Severus that is still reeling from what happening on the Night of Screams, who thinks that the one person he thought could keep it all together has been the reason Harry died, and another unknown factor is at work as well. | |||

| I'm so glad Hermione was allowed to get back some of her own! But I wonder how it's going to change the dynamic of their relationship in the long run. We seem to see it slightly changing here, but it might be a false start. Lucius worries me. There's something about that man I just don't trust, and he's got Severus off balance enough that it seems like Lucius' news is going to expect Severus to make some kind of sacrifice. | This chapter made me downright cry like a baby. I kept wanting her to tell him not to touch her. I can't figure out, is he acting like this purely out of expected treatment of her, but gets caugght up in his own feelings and gets mad at himself? Is he under some kind of compulsion that changes the way he responds? Makes him angry at his own arousal? I can tell he doesn't want to love her, but he does and he's almost punishing them both because they love each other. Author's Response: Well, it's going to get worse before it gets better, but I really appreciate you sticking with the story. The next chapters are ready to be uploaded to Ash tomorrow.
