| His reaction was so very like a broken child, a teen who'd been dumped. hard. I really like that he came up to apologize and his reaction to her declaration of love was astoundingly sweet. | Wow! very emotional. Severus literally had his heart pierced by love. I cannot imagine what will happen at the ball....hope you post soon. Thanks for giving Severus an understanding Hermione, you are so spot on his traumas that is no surprise that his character is so complicated. Kudos for you! | I've really really wanted to read this story and I've tried to, four times (including just now).
Each time, what I've found is that this Hermione is IMHO off-putting. I just don't see her as someone who constantly tells herself how brilliant she is, or treats faculty as friends when she's not yet out of her teens, etc.
She doesn't inspire sympathy. This is only my opinion, but she just reads as entitled to me. Even given her exceptional circumstances and role in the war.
Author's Response: Thank you for your review and opinion. It is interesting how you interpret this. I never intended Hermione to come across as at all full of herself or 'pally' with her teachers. She is simply older and wiser since the war and is finding institutional life frustrating. I suppose I simply mentioned the staff calling her by her first name as they too recognise that she is indeed different (and a year older) than her fellow students. This then contrasts to Snape's initial attitude to her. | |||

| Huge chapter - needy Severus is just heartstring-tugging. The library sex is simply (fans self) hot. But Harry being understanding and *getting* Hermione is the best, plus he coaxes out confessions because he understands her so well. What you do so well is keeping that thread of frantic, insatiable need and desire going, while adding on layers of emotions, interactions with others, the threat of discovery.
