Ah, yes...how well I remember Faulkner's A Rose for Miss Emily, which I read with delicious shivers down my spine in highschool. Your story is a fittingly creepy tribute, although the original was even creepier, in that Emily murdered her 'true love' and then slept with his corpse! (If I'm not mistaken, Faulkner's tale was the inspiration for the song Delta Dawn, as well.)
Good job!
Author's Response: Oh, was it? I'll have to go read the lyrics to it. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the song of the title when sung. LOL. I thought of it, but I couldn't have Hermione killing Severus, so I figured this would be odd enough. Thank you for reading. |

I liked this. Although I didn't have the "Oh my god that's horrible" feeling I had with A Rose For Emily, it was still depressing and bittersweet enough for me. Hermione's obsession and hope for a cure must have really been strong to stave off the dementor. Anyone else but our Hermione would have been sitting on the floor, morosely claiming, "It's no use, I can't do it..." within the first week. Percy was delightful. ~Birdie (^_^)
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad it wasn't as "bad" as the real tale, as I was only hoping to borrow a couple of things from it. I think she was quite obsessed, fueling her fire and determination to not fail. Thank you! Heehee! Percy was a hoot to write in this one. I tried to keep him pompous. lol |

JK says that our life is about choices. Your story is more about the consequences of choices than a volume of cannon. Hermione chose Snape. Ron chose Hermione. Harry chose lawful justice. Harry chose not to listen to his friend and wait. Ron chose not to wait either. And Hermione still chose Snape. This was intense. Really. How far can one go for love and because of love.
Author's Response: I hadn't looked at it from that angle, but yes, indeed, you are write. Each person's choice led them down a path that the others couldn't exactly follow. unfortunately. Thanks for reading this. Love is a wicked little thing at times, isn't it? |

My goodness! This was -- interesting. Fascinating nd captivating the way one gets drawn to look at disasters and accidents. What a horrible end to a friendship.
Great writing! I love it when authors experiment a bit. And Percy was so 100% spot-on, I loved his scenes.
Author's Response: Thanks for reading. I'd hoped that Percy came across as his normal self. LOL |

I noticed the similarity of this story and "A Rose for Emily". I loved that story, and almost enjoyed this one more....
Author's Response: Thanks. I'm happy that you liked it. |

Strange! Very, very strange! LOL
It was a brilliant piece of writing though - you kept me hooked right til the weepy end. I loved the way you wrote pompous Percy and slightly evil Ron - I found them both completely believeable. It also reminded me a little of a very old poem called "The Idiot" about a man who can't bear to be without his mother when she dies, so he digs up her corpse and puts her in her favourite chair by the fire!
I'm very curious about the Faulkner story now though. I think I might go and read that one now.
Author's Response: Oh, I hope you like it. It was a bit creepy when I first read it, but I found myself going back to it over and again. I am just happy that it was brought to my attention again to read. "The Idiot" reminds me of Norman Bates (the Psycho movies) and sounds interesting! |
