She turned and looked at him from her vantage point on the pillow.

"You saw me in that mirror?"

He nuzzled into her neck and breathed deeply before he spoke. He always did that when he didn't want to meet her gaze.

"Yes."

"Details, Severus. Lots of details, if you please."

"It was in my seventh year, I'd already accepted the Dark Mark and I was even more miserable than before. I found the mirror - I won't say how, thank you - and when I looked into it I saw us, embracing, happy. We were both wearing school uniforms. Imagine my surprise nearly twenty years later when I glance across the cloister and find a seventh year Gryffindor - a student of my own, no less - wearing that very same expression. The woman from the mirror."

"That's so sweet, Severus."

"Yes, well, it nearly gave me a bloody heart attack, thank you."
