Who Knew?


I saw him stand there
In long black robes
His usually cold demeanor
Was replaced with a lonely look in his dark orbs.


Slowly he turned
And saw her on the opposite side
Of the long, dark corridor,
When students’ laughter had died.


I saw her stand there
The years had been kind to her
Apprehension showed in her every feature
As she felt this man’s lure.


They stared at each other as if frozen
Afraid the other will disappear as before,
Trembled in anticipation
Wishing to be together more.


He walked towards her
Across the expanse of regret
As if each step stabbed his heart
To remind, lest he forget.


Anxiously, he said,
“My dearest,
It has been twenty years,
Since our horrible tempest.”


I regret all that I have done,
I was young and foolish,
But I never meant to hurt you.
I lament how I was selfish.”


With hopeful alacrity he asked,
“Is there any possibility,
That you can ever forgive me?
Any way to prove my sincerity?


She had been quiet,
But had listened with all her heart,
Decided that while she did love him,
He’d have to do his part.


Refusing to easily acquiesce
Remembering lonely years
She calmly said, “perhaps”
Unheeding many fears.


She turned and departed
He left with all grins
Assured there was hope
And went to his dungeons.


And I, Dumbledore,
Amazed at what transpired
While locked in this closet
Knew what he most desired.


Oh will this be an interesting year!
To have him with an old friend
Who teaches my D.A.T.D.A. class
Who knew Severus Snape had a heart to mend?
