Reviews for The Affairs of Dragons

"'He keeps doing that,' Harry called from halfway across the room. 'But I'm fairly certain that he can only take away house points when we're actually at Hogwarts. I suspect he may be keeping count, though.'" - I had convulsions over this line, nearly. Really magnificent job. That dragon was a masterpiece; I could nearly pine. Harry's attitude toward Snape at the end reminded me very much of Ron Weasley in his usual flippant form. There's an intriguing story to be told there, I think.

A delightful story. I would have chosen Montana or North Dakota, or even Minnesota for low rural populations, but as you know Georgia and I only know the I 75 corridor, I shall not complain. Jerome's echoes of Smaug are masterfully done. It nearly seemed a shame to kill him. But dragons are evil, there's no way around it. Very well done. I wish there was more!

I have to say i finished getting the hang of thursdays and the ending made me cry almost it was so good. This story was just as brilliant and I love your writing technique, so descriptive and compelling! Keep it up!

i've never actually bothered to write a review before. that isn't to say i haven't read anything on here i liked, but nothing that warranted overt praise beyond my favourites list. but, here we are. bravo! i don't think i've read anything i enjoyed this much in quite a while, either original fiction or fan. and the terry pratchett reference was very well done, sneaky and silly. good job.

From the first chapter, "Its eyes, bottomless black holes, radiated a malicious sort of intelligence quite unlike the animal gaze of Hagrid's old Norbert." Since Snape's eyes are frequently described as bottomless black holes (piercing black tunnels, whatever) and he -is- malicious and very intelligent, I kind of thought the dragon might turn out to be Snape. Regardless, what fun, funny, well done story! And yes, it easily could have been longer, if you'd included the story of Snape and Harry making their way to America, etc.

This was a great story! I must admit that I liked the location best, it's close to home. One thing, though, depsite the fact that people tend to generalize the entire South as being "rural", I've yet to discover a place anywhere (especially in my home state of Georgia) where there hasn't been another for twenty miles or so. Despite that, I really liked the story, but your facts were wrong, especially about Georgia. If I were you, I would've picked somewhere like Antarctica or extreme Northern Canada for a remote setting. But, it really was an amusing story.

Author's Response: I am well aware that there are parts of Georgia that are incredibly well populated, but I also know that they tend to be in the northern and eastern part of the state (Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, etc.).
I went to high school in the southwestern part of Georgia, and in driving around outside of the town I happened to live in, I was always struck by how oddly remote it was. There tends to be a cluster of people, and then about thirty or forty miles of 'nothing.' By 'nothing,' of course, I mean that the only things around were farms and pine trees. Honestly, I've only ever felt so remote before in northeastern North Carolina, where you really can go places where there's not a place to use the bathroom indoors for about a hundred miles.
Mostly, I picked Georgia because I wanted a place that had remote patches but was populated enough that Jerome would be spotted. Believe me, I in no way intended to make a generalization about the state.
And I'm sorry this is so long -- in case you hadn't guessed, I tend to be longwinded ;) Thanks for reading!
