A Surprise for Hermione


Severus gave it a final, half-hearted prod. Face it, he thought, you’ll never get it stiff.

At first, everything had seemed to work out. Melting the chocolate had gone perfectly. At the next stage of his preparations, however, things had gone horribly wrong. Panic had set in, quickly followed by desperation and defeat.

‘Why can’t I get it stiff?’ he muttered.

He peered down at the result of his vehement endeavours, so engrossed in scowling at it that he didn’t hear Hermione sneaking up behind him.

‘Because you forgot to add the sugar to your egg whites, dear’, she said.




Author’s Note: I was making chocolate mousse for my mother yesterday as an improvised Mother’s Day gift. Apparently the combination of chocolate, uncooperative egg whites and my obsession for all things Snape was too much to resist.
