Reviews for In Their Hands

Therapy often makes one uncomfortable as you face and deal with your preconceived notions of the yourself and the world. This story does the same for readers as it presents us with a version of Hermione that is quite at odds with most other story versions. Here, I am uncomfortable with her, not sure if she really is qualified for her position and her values. At first, I really disliked Dr. Ellory but now begin to question if I were too hasty as she makes points that hit home. I commend you for taking a risk with these characterizations. I do hope for an explanation for the non- cannon use of Doctors instead of healers and the more muggle therapies they use.

Author's Response: I appreciate your honest appraisal. I agree, Hermione does seem ill-equipped for her role in some ways but in others she is seen to be more than adept. She is clearly a therapist who requires therapy herself (which is often the case) and we discover a bit more about how she has come to be in that place later on. I'm unsure of whether you'll get a satisfactory explanation for the more Muggle therapies vs magic but they have removed the wands from clients and dispensed with Legilimency etc. perhaps as a way of getting back to the fundamental principles of mental therapy rather than magical principles. I always considered such things as Obliviation to be an inexact art and wonder what sort of damage was done as a result. Perhaps something that can't be undone with more magic? I'm rambling here but I appreciate your questions as they force me to consider my choices in greater depth. Cheers, DSx

'I think you are the boy.." That was absolutely, unexpectedly, beautifully, perfect. It would be so trite to see Hermione as the boy trying to save a few souls but it showed real understanding of Snape to see how he was the boy who did the best he could to save those he could. I wish this forum was still as active as it was in years past so your wonderful stories could get the reviews they deserve.

Author's Response: Thank you for your kind words. I'm unsure of what the traffic was like through this site previously as I only started writing a bit over a year ago. There did seem to be a lot more reviewing a few years ago. But I greatly appreciate the feedback, DSx
