Reviews for Burn Down The Mission

The ending really fit the entire arc of the story; to me, you were very consistent, even as you created a relationship I was hoping against hope would work out. But chapter by chapter, the atmosphere never lost a certain foreboding - always had the sense that there was going to be a Major Catch. And Snape's duplicity (even as he's torn about it) makes a terrible sense. There aren't tons of stories in this ship that *really* have the guts to delve into the idea of a Snape who truly loves Hermione but also can be truly bad. It's a troubling scenario but you wrote it so very well.

Author's Response: Thank you. To be honest, I really didin't think of him as being bad, but more that he'd been trapped in a mirror for 30 years, in a drab, lifeless place that was little more than hell. That, I think, would send anyone mad. I also think he couldn't have stopped Hermione even if he wanted. She was too confident in her own abilities. I think mistakes were made on both sides, but I deliberately made him ambiguous to let the reader make up their own minds.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Did not see that coming. It's been a long, dry spell since I have read something without a happy ending. Thank you. That was sad and terrible and perfect.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your kind and understanding review. I means more than I can say.

You're right, it was the only way. Nicely told.

Thank you, Teddy for a thought-provoking and deep story. All of us would love for Severus to be happy, but this story has a realistic twist in it. After years of drab imprisonment would we do any differently? After a life of ignoring his own needs, would he continue to do so? He still obviously love Hermione, and she loves him. I will think of this story many times.,

Author's Response: Thank you so much. That so hits the nail on the head - "After years of drab imprisonment would we do any differently?" This is exactly what I felt when I was writing this. Thank you for your wonderful and supportive comments.

You know, I actually really honestly loved this story. I read it a week or so ago on lj and have been waiting a bit to see what my reaction would work out to. Sometimes you need a story with a good, solid one-two punch in the feels; I mean that in the very best way possible. As always, you write Snape and Hermione so well both individually and together, and even the minor details are so well thought out and described. It's like I could SEE and experience everything I read. Beautiful, really beautiful. And on a side note, I really liked the subtext here that the castle doesn't allow its Heads to have other partners besides herself. An interesting theory and one that I could really get behind! I'm getting long-winded now, but yeah, this was great!!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind comments. You have made my day!

Oh, I do love your stories, even when they don't come out the way I want.... It made sense. Love doesn't always conquer all.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed it.

After reading this story, I had to: 1 - read a fluffy one, 2 - go take a shower, and 3 - read other readers' reviews - before I was able to get my thoughts on it together, so that I could write a review myself. And I have to say I really admire you for being able to write this ending. I don't know if I would be - if it was heartbreaking to read, I know it must have been at least as heartbreaking to write. Nonetheless, it completed the story perfectly, and it made me feel something I didn't expect to feel at the beginning, but I am glad that I did. Oh, and it made me realize that the Ashwinder review window is far too small, too ;).

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Yes, it did hurt to write, but it was the story the way it was given to me. I thought about trying to make it a happy ending, but it felt plastic and unorganic and wrong, and I knew I wasn't supposed to circumvent my Muse. I'm glad so many readers understand this. I am so glad you enjoyed it, and you are glad you read it. Thank you so much.
