| I have an honest question. I love the Sevmione ship but keep coming across fics with this same idea – that Lily ended her friendship with Severus because he called her a Mudblood and she refused to accept his apology for it. This makes no sense nor is it what I took from the story. Lily didn’t end a friendship with her best friend since childhood because he called her a name. She ended it because she realized he was hell bent on joining a terrorist organization populated by bigots planning to exterminate everyone with her blood status and her parents blood status. Rowling made it clear it was something Sev and Lily discussed and argued over many times for as long as he chose to associate with the schoolmates who agreed with Riddle's propaganda. The fact that Severus was willing to make a singular exception for Lily was unacceptable to her, as it should have been! Why would a self respecting Muggleborn associate with someone who believed Muggleborns were born inferior to self-styled 'Purebloods'? That would be the worst kind of masochistic hypocrisy! On a more practical level, Severus may have cared for her, but any one of his friends would have no problem raping, torturing, beating, and/or killing her. Severus being in love with her did not excuse his desire to join a terrorist group of any kind, let alone one that would target her! Seriously, do those of you who denigrate Lily think about how his being a Death Eater would impact their friendship?! Lastly, the idea that Lily married James for any other reason than her being in love with him is unsupported. The idea that she married James to spite Severus is ridiculous. Lily and Severus were only ever friends. His love for her was unrequited, and that is nothing for Lily to have felt guilt or remorse for. When it comes to being in love, people are not interchangeable. Lily couldn’t have forced herself to fall in love with Severus any more than he could have stopped himself from falling in love with her. Neither had a choice. It’s highly unlikely Lily would have fallen in love with Severus even if James hd not been in the picture. Lily also couldn’t stop herself from falling in love with James, nor he,with her and there’s nothing wrong with that. Yes, James was a bullying jerk as a child and teen to Severus but Rowling clearly stated he changed and that Lily wouldn’t have had anything to do with him if he hadn’t. I would understand if fanfic authors used the “Lily was a shallow, trite chit who wouldn’t forgive a friend's stress induced name calling _-and-_ married James to spite Severus." ploys to use in stories clearly marked ‘ and explained as AU, but they come up so often, someone who read Sevmione fanfic without reading the books would think these erroneous beliefs were cannon. | |||

| It will be a good thing for Sevrus if he really is able to let go of Saint Lily. She was never worthy of his devotion: just an ordinary, self-absorbed teenager with a vindictive streak. Author's Response: I agree; I've always thought she was a crappy friend. Friends forgive one another. | |||

| Why is she so dirty? Author's Response: That's a very good question. Severus used his memory of Lily to sustain him all throughout the war. He used her so much that he wrung her out, like a used tea bag. As he pulled more and more of her essence away, he left his negativity and fear behind, which is why she's dirty. | |||

| So sad and yet sweet at the same time. Author's Response: I imagine that if Severus had lived (like he should have), he would be plagued by PTSD so severe that he would either need to learn how to meditate some of it out or be on Calming Draught the rest of his life.
