Reviews for Take This Kiss Upon The Brow

I hadn't read the story that inspired this one, so I read that one first. After reading them both, I can see where absolute despair and hopelessness could drive Hermione to suicide as a "crime of passion," if nothing else. I think that Severus' ensuing guilt after finding her dead would just about crush him, though. He always had a tender heart, which was why he had to build up such hatefulness to protect it.

Author's Response: this was inspired not only by the original fic but by edgar allen poe's poem--so of course it is sad. Honestly, I don'tthink Hermione would react like this--it is kinda OOC. Thanks for reviewing!

Jeez. And here when I read the original tale that spawned your plot bunny, (according to my review of that one) I was hoping Hermione would have her chance another day. Now she can't. Won't. Too bad she didn't consider placing her memory in a vial so that Severus could see her kindness, and that he was actually responding to her, Hermione, rather than Lily. Sigh. So sad. Thanks for writing it, though.

Author's Response: Well, my take on things does not mean that's the 'only' possible ending. After all, only selinabln can write a 'sequel' to her original story! Mine is just a detour of sorts! I hope you enjoyed my drabble and thanks very much for reviewing!

The only consolation I have after reading such a sad story is the belief that Hermione doesn't strike me as being the kind of person who would take that way out. Granted, she's a Gryffindor and it's not too hard to see that Gryffindors (as well as Hufflepuffs) are the kind of people who might consider suicide as an almost melodramatically grand gesture of self-sacrifice on behalf of a loved one. However, Gryffindors are also considered the bravest (as well as perhaps the most reckless) of all the Houses -- the ones who go where angels fear to tread and soldier on even when all the signs indicate that the cause is hopeless (look at Hermione's efforts with SPEW). Hermione is also a little more rational than your typical Gryffindor -- the Sorting Hat considered putting her in Ravenclaw, remember -- so I think that she would actually be more likely to simply avoid acting on her feelings, make the best of the situation, and redirect her energies elsewhere (as women in unhappy marriages usually do).

Author's Response: Honestly, I don't think this scenario is particularly in character for Hermione either. It was inspired chiefly by the fact that after reading the original "Just a Dream" by selinabln, I happened to read "A Dream within a Dream." The result was a very melancholy plot bunny. I hope you (and other readers) can overcome the OOC-ness and see some value in what I was trying to project. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review!

Bittersweet and sad... I think he will always regret that his last words to her were angry. Nicely written.

Author's Response: Thank you for the kind words! Bittersweet and sad were exactly the feelings I was trying to evoke.
