| It is fluffy, but well done. All of that emotion, detailed storyline done in a one-shot. I think you hit upon the most poignant issue with Snape...his lack of trust, hope and love. | Well written but ultimately unsatisfying. Realizing he's in love doesn't erase years of being an asshole about it. Had you expanded this with him needing to earn back her trust, it would have been a stronger story. As it stands, it's another "sweet, forgiving Hermione / asshole, selfish Severus" story - seems this dynamic is all that exists in the fandom anymore. Anyway, it's well written but I think I'm just burned out on the same old, same old, especially when Hermione is unrecognizable from the canon.
Author's Response: Yes, while you are correct, I hopefully wanted to show that Severus did indeed care for her but didn't deem it love in his own mind. He wasn't necessarily an 'asshole' to her, maybe about the issue, but not to her. As for him being cold, I think it was believable in that he spent years being surrounded in his own bitterness and guilt day after day. I think Hermione is by her nature, very forgiving. Perhaps she shouldn't have let him off the hook so easily however ;). Thanks for your review! | |||
