I love this story! :) I hope it wont' be long before it's all finished and I can read the whole thing! I think you mean "sentient" rather than "sapient", though; sapient means "hopeful."
Author's Response: I'm glad you like the story!! I am afraid, however, that you have been misinformed about the meaning of "sapient". I fully don't recall what you are referring to (I wrote this story a year ago), but the difference between "sentient" and "sapient" is different to what you think it is. Sapient, which is derived from the same root as the "sapiens" in Homo sapiens, does not mean "hopeful; it means "full of knowledge" or "having or showing wisdom or judgement" and is often used to distinguish between sentient organisms (those that are aware/have consciousness) and sapient organisms (those that are capable of reasoning). If the sentence you read was about any of the Magical Creatures H was trying to prove were capable of higher thought (and therefore eligible for Being status), then I did, indeed, mean to use "sapient". |
