Reviews for The Secret Life of Severus Snape

So endeth the first part. Because of the bolded letters "A/N" at the bottom which weren't followed by any, I was disappointed you hadn't given us any Author's Notes after all. So you've set up this situation. I just hope David's/Snape's sanity doesn't go haywire because of all the extra pressure this has put him under. I can hardly wait until the next chapter's up. Another "10" for all your hard work!

Ah, dear Oz! I hope Real Life is treating you well. I miss your stories--both this one and (dare I say it) HAVE A CHAT. May you be having a delightful summer (or winter, if you live in the Southern Hemisphere). Here's another "10" to let you know your work is wonderful--and missed! Best wishes, from Jong_Kahn.

Author's Response: Thank you and the next chapter is up now. I wanted to try and get all the sites in sync hence the delay in posting. I do live in the Southern hemisphere (no prizes for guessing where) and unfortunately it's the busy time for me at work. And I do permanent night duty which doesn't help. ;p Enjoy!

Poor David/Severus. Had to look back at chapter one to remind myself about Eileen's potential motives; the mentioning of Kathleen is interesting. Eileen's sister? I understand, then, that perhaps Eileen is trying to preserve, not only their anonymity as the Grangers (with a second muggle husband), but also the Prince family and Snape's connection there (since Kathleen is unaware of the name). As for this chapter, I liked the way you adjusted "Snape's worst memory," building on and giving us a realistic example of bully behaviour. And now Dumbledore is making use of David/Severus' situation :( Enjoying this interesting tale!

Author's Response: Thank you, and you're right, Eileen's motivations are as much to protect herself, though she would argue that it has all been done to protect David and Peter. Any of my OC's tend to operate on the peripheries, other than Peter of course. I did, and still do worry that I should have explained Kathleen a bit more, but her only real interaction with Eileen is to feel that she has to pass on the warning about Riddle to her sister. I've always felt JKR glossed over the imperfections of the characters she enjoyed writing, and played up the character(s) she had little time for. Reversing that premise to explain S/D's 'worst memory' will come into play in the second part, so explaining it now was important. :) I hope the story continues to entertain you.

God I feel sorry for David/Sev for having to go through all this shit. It's bad enough to know what he went through in canon, but to have him be hated by even the Slytherins seems almost too much. (Sigh) Poor guy!

Author's Response: I know, it's a wonder Severus comes out to play for me after all the crap I put him through over and over again. ;) I've always looked into JKR's willing isolation of Snape. He's always been the loner, the boy and young man relegated to the peripheries of most people's thoughts, except when he was useful. There will be some bright spots in his life...shortly. Thank you for pointing out the glaring plot hole too. I've plugged it as best I could. :)

What an interesting take on the story. I like the idea of Severus joining the death eaters as a spy from the beginning, although I think it might have been beyond even Dumbledore to ask that of an adolescent (we all know Ddore was a manipulative and horribly biased jerk though, so I wouldn't put it past him). Adding to faves, I'd like to read more please!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! :) I too think it might just have been a little too mercenary of Dumbledore to do that to a student, one he was supposed to be protecting, but an ostracised student hiding his true identity would be a little too much of a gift to pass up. The fact that Severus/David made himself such a willing servant, just adds to the bilious sensation Dumbledore gives me. ;) There is more to come, though the second part is still in the process of being written.

He should apologize to Lily AFTER she apologizes to him. Dumbledore, of course, blames the victim and does nothing to punish the bullies.

Author's Response: So very true, but Lily never did apologise (as far as I recall from canon), so that acts as another lever for Dumbledore to use on his latest adherent to the 'cause.' :)

I really like it as it's really different from any other that I've read. It's a unique twist and I'm looking forward to how his adopted surname 'Granger' comes into play.

Author's Response: Thank you and I hope you continue to enjoy the story as it unfolds. :) I'd never have though tof it without Sunny33's delicious prompt though.
