Time travel always changes things in ways you could never predict. Interesting concept.
Author's Response: It certainly can change things, and that is why there are so often warnings against it. Thank you for reading. |

Powerful (all three vignettes) but confusing. Sometimes not having all the facts as a reader works, however in this case the brevity sells the concept short. My mind isn't filling anything in; I'm simply left confused as to why they remember when they shouldn't. And "...watches his bright counsellor and thorny little judge sleeping..." makes no sense whatsoever.
Author's Response: It's unfortunate that your mind wasn't able to fill in the blanks. Sometimes that happens. Different sorts of works appeal to different sorts of people. As for the bit you quoted, it might make no sense to you, but it makes sense to those who either were already in the know or who were willing to explore meanings. Again, different people enjoy different things. I can only be thankful that not all of the readers had the same experience. |

Rose and Hugo are not dead; they simply exist in a different timestream from the one Hermione now occupies.
Author's Response: That is a lovely (and astute) way to view what has happened. If only Hermione could find comfort in that. |

And so I was led from a word unto another word, and from a deed unto another deed.* From the present
into the past - and from another past into another future. When I read the second piece, I thought 'Hermione, what have you done...' Perhaps she had already done it.
* I think Ursula LeGuin used this on the flyleaf in her EarthSea trilogy, but my books are miles away just now so I can't rifle through them and make sure I got the quote right.
Author's Response: Perhaps she had already done it. It's hard to tell whether she proved her theory or not, isn't it?And yes, as I wrote the second piece, even I was thinking, Oh, Hermione! Why.... |

Ahh. Now the second story make more sense.
Author's Response: I'm glad to know that. |

Sorry, one more thing. I know you likely won't answer, but I'm curious: Since at one point there are two Hermiones (the Elder from the future and the Younger from the canon-line), what happens to the other? If it is the Elder who marries Snape, that is a clever way to bridge the age gap. Perhaps the Younger perished alongside Ron. But the implication is that it is the Younger who remains to marry Snape (else why ask why she remembers? Of course she would.). So did the Elder return to her own timeline, or are there still two Hermiones in this new timeline? I have read stories that handle it both ways (collapsing wave theory allows for it either way). I'm just curious as to your take on it.
Author's Response: I'm afraid I don't know what would happen should the premise you suggested come to pass. To be honest, I wasn't able to work out how you arrived at some of your conclusions, so I might be able to answer, given more information. For now, however, much as Severus said to Hermione, "I don't know." |

Ah, now it makes sense. I don't know who Navikov (sorry, spelling?) is, but I can guess at his/her theory. This story's premise reminds me of some of the stories by my favorite author (not JKR). Thank you for completing the cycle. This is a good (though sad) story.
Author's Response: Thank you. I like to think of it as bittersweet: there has been loss, but something was also found. And yet, I can not imagine that it would be possible not feel a measure of sadness under the circumstances, however. |
