Sweet that they got to have their lives together and sad that it had to end.

Nice writing, but I don't consider choosing death to be brave. Accepting what life brings, even when that means living on after the death of a soul-mate, is what I call brave.
Author's Response: Thank you for the review!
I think it's a different kind of bravery. I think that admitting that your end is near and deciding how to spend it is something that can be construed as bravery.
I think recognizing that you do not want to spend what little time you'd have trapped in a shell of yourself, frail and separated from what makes you feel human, knowing your fame and that you'd end up feeling like a specimen or a sideshow..and choosing your own way home takes a different strength.
In this, they are both at that point, and have chosen to go on together into the unknown, rather than go alone in a hospital bed, separate from the other and their home.
Choosing to end it because you just can't live without someone... doesn't make sense to me, and no, I don't see it as brave. But I do see recognizing the choices and making a decision, and moving forward with it, knowing you are scared, as a kind of sad and quiet bravery.
It would not be my personal choice, but... it spoke to me for them. |

This isn't the first story I've read where elderly and ill Severus and Hermione choose to die together, but the charmed wedding rings are a creative twist. Usually one of them just takes poison ;-D
Author's Response: Thank you! I kind of liked it, too.... I didn't want it to be just a poison, but.. I thought maybe the rings could have opposites, so in the end, they would help each other. I'm rambling, sorry. :) |
