Reviews for Guilty Pleasures

Wonderful writing, you left so much up for reader thoughht. Perfect for this story.

Author's Response: Thanks! I love a story where it's left up to the reader to determine fpr themselves what actually happens.

This is why I believe some people should never settle. For some, settling works fine. For others, it works until they wake up one day and find their life is inexplicably changed because they realize what they've missed out on. Perhaps it's a brief chance encounter with someone that triggers it - someone that much better, that much more perfect, that they thought would never come around -and they find they are never satisfied again. They become miserable and find themselves feigning happiness just to get through it. It's not lonliness that makes these people pick someone else, it's the realization that what is before them might be the best that life has to offer. But what happens years down the line, when there is too much invested and they realize it's not the right choice - perhaps it had never been the right choice, and they desperately tried to make it work?

Author's Response: Thanks for the review and I'm sorry it took so long for a reply! I love your take on this drabble... it's not the HEA that happens so often (and I'm a HEA gal, trust me), and I love how it could be interpreted in so many ways. Perhaps you're right, and Severus is simply trying to make it work, because he thinks he won't do any better than what he has. Or perhaps he truly does love Hermione, and he doesn't want to have such dreams... we'll probably never know for sure. ;) Thanks so much!

In your Author's Note at the end, you suggest that the reader will draw their own conclusions & read their own thing into this fic - and you're clearly right on that. This amazing piece of writing will mean different things to different people. Surely anyone who thinks that the damaged soul that is Severus Snape would have gone onto to a new life (assuming he'd lived) unscatched & 'happily ever after' is just kidding themselves really? (As I guess we all are in the fantasy that is 'fanfic'.) But, as a 'damaged soul' myself, I can believe your darker viewpoint & both empathise & sympathise with Severus' pain his battles to fight his 'inner demons'. However, nothing will take away the fact that this is writing at its best, & it is so refreshing to read a fanfic that's very different & which has such depth.:-)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I tend to write stories (see my three WIPs) with tons of backstory that needs explaining. It truly can become tiresome (not that it makes me love my story any less though), especially when I'm aching to move forward with things. Writing these drabbles has been such a release... and terribly enjoyable! You're right, there's no way that canon Severus would have come out the other side undamaged; he was *already* damaged to begin with. Would he have continued to love Lily, or would his debt have been fulfilled and she would have faded into the background, gone but not forgotten? Who's to say... JKR, I suppose. I'd love to ask her that question: if Severus had lived, what would have happened to him? I'm so glad you enjoyed the drabble! Thanks again!

OMG SO sad! I finished it like "NOO severus you have to love her more than Lily" hahah. Anyways really well written and all that blah blah blah. Well done :D x

Author's Response: Thank you! I've been in a bit of a dark mood lately, as far as writing goes... and this is what happened. I'm so glad you liked it!

Hi Bully...I wish I was as eloquent as your other reviewers but I can only say that this little treasure left me gobsmacked. Visually and sensually it was a treat. And not that I'd ever want to have an "episode" per se.......it would appear that Sev's were most enjoyable! My lovely faithful husband once confessed to me that mentally he had been unfaithful many times. I wasn't miffed....not really....I mean he loved me so much he took me to see my guilty pleasure in the flesh last year. Maybe he thought it would exorcise things....maybe I did. No such luck.....just intensified things.A fantastic and very realistic insight into a very complex yet simple persona. What a conundrum! Best wishes, Love Ali xxxx.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm a detail-whore *snort*, so I LOVE to write about the surroundings, the scenery, etc. I can't get enough! Sev's episodes are enjoyable, to a point... it's a place that he escapes to in order to just... be. His subconscious has made up this world for him based on what it thinks he needs, wants, etc... but is it truly? I think he needs to have a long converstion with his wife and then with himself... because, like you said, he's a simple man in some aspects, but entirely too complex in others. :) Oh, and kudos on seeing your own guilty pleasure...it just made you want more, didn't it? ;)

I love a bit of darkness, and this drabble series gripped me the whole way through. The imagery is so lush, and I enjoyed the contrast between Snape’s stark appraisal of his physical appearance and his more hazy perceptions of his indulgent surroundings. How (deliciously) chilling that despite being married and in love, Snape not only still immerses himself in his illusionary world of empty pleasures and self-pity, but may prefer it to his real life, the one he admits is better, but where he has to think beyond his own needs. (…or perhaps he believes he must repress them completely?) “He loved her as much as one man could ever love a living woman…A living woman.” Shivers. But oh so good. Perhaps if he could allow himself to ask for the things he gets from the dreams and trust Hermione enough to share his dark fantasies with her, he could see that he didn’t have to live two half lives, that her heart is capable of accepting him in all his complexity. But, as you’ve written, his fate is sealed by his deflection. Thank you very much for writing; I’m adding this to my favorites. A well written drabble carries a weight far beyond its word count.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I truly can't believe the wonderful reviews that this little drabble has gotten! I think Severus definitely has some issues that need dealing with... and perhaps, like you said, if they were to deal with things together, instead of Severus repressing everything, then they could work through it. Is he scared of telling her? Or does he truly not want her to know? Personally, I've always thought that he was scared of losing her if he should confess his deepest, darkest secrets... and that he'd rather 'suffer' than risk that. Hermione was able to reach him in that place, so perhaps his love for her is starting to overcome the fantasy. Thanks again for the wonderful review!

That was really well written, although it was quite sad. You did a really good job with the mystery of what was happening.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm normally a HEA kinda gal, but this just wouldn't make itself into one... I tried, I truly did, but it took on it's own ending. :)
