I am so torn after this chapter. I try not to presume to know better than the author of a story, after all, this is not my story. However I am curious to see how this plays out. I don't know if I as a reader can forgive Severus for raping Hermione, the young woman he was supposed to love, respect, and cherish but who he turned on at the first moment when it became a battle between her and his pride. However I have faith in you as an author to be able to continue this story in a way that is true to the characters you have developed thus far. Also, I'm so sorry about real life, that shit gets in the way of everything. :P

Author's Response: I tried to get across how Severus doesn't see what he has done as rape. Hermione sees it that way, as does the reader, but within his own twisted logic Severus is getting what he deserves as her husband - a legal right to her body was part of his end of the bargin, and he is a very proud man - can you imagine him taking this defiance on Hermione's part lying down? I believe that to be more OOC. He is a man of huge emotion, even if that is kept hidden, and with that comes a violent anger and a vengeful pride. I picture him in a similar light to Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights - perhaps that comparison makes his behaviour a bit easier to comprehend. And of course, he does not yet love her, which makes him jump to anger since he feels she is playing him for a fool and cannot see her pain.

No. No no no no no. This will not do. You are a better writer than that! It is a sign of a bad writer to have characters behave out of character in order to create 'drama', and I refuse to believe that you are a bad writer. But it is startlingly strange to read about a character who is a gentle and considered lover to his virginial bride who in the next chapter is a ruthless rapist of that same bride. The idea of a woman marrying a stranger under strange circumstances, them having a misunderstanding and him getting impatient and raping her and she either enjoying his 'masterfulness' or her forgiving him... Well, it's a reoccurring theme in bad bodyrippers, and one which infuriates me. Really, girl, you write better than that!! Still, I anxiously await the next chapter, if only to see how you try to resolve the matter. Because how on Earth did you think to knit THAT back to a happy end? (unless, of course, this story happilly ends in a divorce) Because a rapist might hide behind a false facade of a 'gentle man', but a gentle man cannot 'hide' behind the 'facade' of a ruthless rapist. It's like being pregnant or being at war. There is no 'little bit pregnant' or 'gentle war'. One is either pregnant or not and war is never gentle. There can be no 'oh well, he had just a little episode of ruthless rapism, but he's okay now and we'll all be hunky dory" or 'Snape, the gentle and considered rapist'.

Thank you so much! this story provides me a much needed escape from my miserable existence, and I appreciate all the work you put into it. Cheers!

Author's Response: I hope my existence isn't too bad, for I fear this chapter wasn't the happy pick-me-up you needed. Either way I am glad you enjoyed it.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had a rough couple of months, but I'm definitely happy to see that you're able to write again. I appreciated the care with which you wrote this chapter, and I thought you did a wonderful job creating a realistic dialogue between Severus and Hermione. Severus has certainly pushed their relationship to the brink, and it seems from this point it can only go one way or the other. I hope his discussion with Dumbledore has prompted him to really take a good look at himself and reassess the situation. I eagerly await your next chapter!

Author's Response: I am so glad you think the build up is realistic and not OOC!!!! I think you must really "get" my notion of Severus. Thanks for the review - updates to follow!

What an intense chapter. I am on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. Sorry to hear that things have been hard, I hope they get better soon. This one of my favorite stories.

Author's Response: Thanks very much - I am glad you enjoyed it, and what an honour to know this is a favourite of yours, it means a lot to me as this is the first thing I have written.

I hope that you don't mind me re-reviewing, but I just read through some of the other comments on here and I'm disgusted at some of them. I find it hard to believe that people tell you you have YOUR version of characters not true to form, or they don't believe you done the right thing in YOUR fiction. I don't understand why people insist on doing things like that - when i don't like a fic, or don't agree with something, I just move onto a different fic. The author is entitled to their own opinions and judgements on their characters and their plots. Keep writing the way you are. It's your story and if you take a turn I don't like, don't worry, I won't shout, I'll just quietly wander off. But I don't think that's going to happen ;)

Author's Response: Of course I don't mind you re-reviewing, thank you for your support. This is my first fiction, so I find flames hard to work with. I try and stay within character limits as much as possible, but I cannot please everyone AND make the story work. Cheers for your faithful following of the story!
