I’ve read this so many times and it’s still so sad.. I guess that Ron is the one Hermione becomes linked with instead.. would like maybe a epilogue of whether Hermione remembers in death or not
Author's Response: Yes...I planned for this story to wrap around and weave back into canon, so she would end up with Ron as we see in DH. However, I think in death she might remember. |

I loved the style that you wrote it in, I assume that from then on it takes the same path as canon... I would love maybe just a epilogue to see if in death Hermione does remember
Author's Response: Thank you, it does go down canon's path after this. I think she does...there have been a lot of readers asking for an epilogue to see if she does remember, and I imagine that she would. |

I know it's been years since this was written, but I just have to comment anyway...
This was painful to read, heartbreaking throughout; but though it is sad and dark, it is ultimately *satisfying*. This was the right ending; our hero could not have chosen otherwise without losing his soul.
But all is not bleak. Although he may be deprived of Hermione's love in this timeline, the fact remains that he will go to his grave having experienced what it is like to love and be loved. No change in timeline can steal that very great gift from him.
Author's Response: Thank you. I am grateful that you found it satisfying - this is the fic that I have received the most feedback lamenting the ultimate choice of plot, but it was always designed to be this story. I am also gratified that you felt all was not bleak - I didn't feel like it was all darkness, Severus received the gift of loving and being loved. |

Ow. Ow ow ow. You've got a deft touch with the emotional knife there. Fantastic (if deeply painful) read.
Author's Response: Thank you. I don't know if I would say that I'm glad you found the read painful, but it is gratifying to know that the story affected you. Thank you so much for reading.

Why is it always Severus who has to sacrifice so that other people can be happy ? You'd think Destiny would owe him one.
Author's Response: Right? As much as I wish he could have a happy ending, he was predestined to die from Book 4, at least. And that's the problem with being someone who plays a pivotal role, you are often asked to sacrifice. Thank you for reading! |

I nearly cried when I read this---to know a romantic love for the ages, or to save a nation a century of pain?
That choice would destroy the mind.
Author's Response: Thank you - this is high praise indeed. I am glad you enjoyed this vignette. |

Heartbreaking and beautiful. My years won't stop. I wish it wasn't so but your composed this piece so wonderfully. If there be an epilogue in an EWE style, I'd love to read it.
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad this piece affected you so much - it was designed to be a tearjerker, after the episode for which it is named. There isn't an epilogue for this particular story - but thanks for asking! |
