Even if you hadn't mentioned Durham Cathedral (which I remember visiting as a child), your spelling would have made it clear that you're British -- and as such, you might not be familiar with the American poet Robert Frost. This story seems to echo some of the same sentiments of one of Frost's most famous poems, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" -- Nature's first green is gold/Her hardest hue to hold/Her early leaf's a flower/But only so an hour/Then leaf subsides to leaf/So Eden sank to grief/So dawn goes down to day/Nothing gold can stay. The fact that Hermione was trying to capture the golden color of the sunset in particular and failing was very reminiscent of that.

By the time I finished the story I had tears in my eyes and I am writing this thinking of someone. No, not a teacher, but someone I had to let go. Funny how this reminded me of him. You did a wonderful job, sometimes it's good to remember that in life there isn't always a happy ending in which you remain with your ''prince charming'' so to say... I'm a hopeless romantic you might think, but..any chance for a sequel? 10+ this is one of my favorites now.

This was breathtakingly sad, and beautiful! So visual and now one of my favorites. Thank you (hopefully the old saying If you "love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were").

i don't know what to say other than how touched i was by this - on so many levels. i am also at a point in my life where i need to let some things go and so this just struck a cord with me. it's interesting that i found this because i actually think of my life as a series of snapshots and photographs - and maybe even a short clip or two thrown in or something more akin to a wizard's photograph. i say this because for me in each moment that happens where something touches me it's like my mind automatically takes this vivid photograph and stores it for me... and when i really need it, when i'm down and/or need to let something go i try to pull all those snapshots out and remind myself that it all happens for a reason and that in the end i will find what i'm looking for and everything will be alright. for me life is nothing more or less than a series of moments that are captured in the most magnificent way - and sometimes the most painful moments can even be the most beautiful because of what we learn from them and take with us into the next moment. it seems you've portrayed hermione in a similar fashion... where moments are cherished for what they are and photographed for hope they bring and the secrets that they hold for each of us in the future... beautiful, sad, hopeful, and well done!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. I think sometimes that memories are the best photographs available, like you say. I can't help hoping for Hermione, though... Thanks for the review!

This story was so beautiful. It came at a time in my life where I needed reminding that some things in life are transient. The first two sentences captured my attention and my heart, and it just kept reeling me in. Thank you so much for this.

Author's Response: Funnily enough, that's almost exactly why I wrote it. I'm at one of those points, currently, where I have to be able to let go of something that can't last. I'm really glad it struck a chord with you, and that you enjoyed it. Thank you for the review!
