Reviews for Whate'er Befall

As shuldham said, this was indeed well-crafted. But I cannot buy a teenaged girl--not even our Hermione!--being able to harbor these feelings. Well, not healthily, anyway. I'm sorry, but the nature of a young heart is to love, to hope, to dream. Even when such a heart tells herself she doesn't really care, or 'she's able to (withdraw, take less than what she deserves--fill in the blank)', it is just not possible. The reason this kind of sentiment is usually ascribed to Severus is BECAUSE older hearts have been so damaged they can compromise themselves with lies like this. Yes, this was intense, even well-written. But believeable? No. Sorry.

Author's Response: To be told by everyone you respect and everything you’ve been taught that you shouldn’t want what you constantly long for can be a corruptible force. To know that as a pair you were condemned before you even began can trigger a river of denial that can coalesce in this: call it lust; because love is something I couldn’t bear to lose and I know I can’t keep you. I'll take intense and well-written. But believable? It is fiction--written by a then-19 year old girl who couldn’t possibly harbor these feelings.

What a stunning little piece this was. I was entranced by the words, you have written them beautifully. And as delicate poison said before me, it is a truly original take to see it from Hermione's perspective, to see her in this vulnerable position. Well done!

Author's Response: I'm glad to know that others see that she is still in a very vulnerable position despite the roughness she treats it with. (I do hope that makes sense.) I'm very glad that you enjoyed it.

Usually it is Severus that is written with these thoughts and feelings, cast in this light. I find it refreshing that this ficlet addresses the possibility that Hermione can be that person as well. Bravo to you on creating something poignant, desperate, sensual and reverent.

Author's Response: Thank you very much. (I don't think anything I've written before has been referred to as reverent.)
