| Personally, I think now that she's been reborn, Hermione might start seeing Ron with new eyes. He's been "comfortable" for her - not a challenge. But she GOT over the hump - being that she already excelled at the challenge of getting Snape. All she had to do was overcome the fear and leave. I totally could understand (as I am older and have been married a long time, but not "in love" anymore with my husband) why she would look for other men to fufill that need inside of her. But it seems like she only kept Ron around for that comfort zone when all was said and done. He is/was her comfort zone. However, Severus is pouring all his emotion out to her in the form of runes, which I find to be an extremely intimate form of connection. I don't think he'd do that with just anyone. But the fact that he's already done it with her, means that he feels a deeper intimacy with her than he vocalizes. It's like he's saying "you are the lover, you are the woman who is meant for me" and she turns and walks away to - who? What? Old shoe comfort with a man who really cannot give her what she needs, or she wouldn't be out prowling at all! I think she's not only let herself down, but doing herself a great disservice, as well as nullifying everything Snape just did - which is a great disservice to him as well. What it boils down to, is that she used him just as much as she used the other men. And that's not cool. | |||

| Whoa. It was going along swimmingly then you blind-sided me with that third last paragraph. A fitting end, I suppose, but I feel a companion chapter or drabble from Snape's POV would make for some better closure. Very well written!! Author's Response: I didn't think this would end happily. He freed her, and that's both good and bad. I think you're right that a piece from Snape's POV would make more sense and provide better closure, but I really wanted this to be about her and not him. Unfair, I know, but that's what I wanted to do. Thank you so much for reading and commenting! | |||

| So many exquisite, poetic images - "for reconciling with fate, for facing fears," "dropped for the sake of holding," the final image of a serene (though not necessarily happy) Hermione without a destination. Beautifully crafted! Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad some of the images resonated with you, particularly "dropped for the sake of holding," which was my favorite phrase/image to write. Giving up one thing to get another. And that's what I think Hermione does in this story. She gives up her marriage and everything she knows to find herself. | |||
