Reviews for The Spoils of War

I couldn’t finish this. I’ve read at least one other fic by the author so I don’t doubt quality of the writing. I had to stop because I’ve come across yet another Severus fic that blames Dumbledore for every ill that befell those fighting against Voldemort. I truly don’t understand such an asinine stance. Pick any conflict; do you blame the leader or the generals of the invaded country/region for the crimes committed by the invading force? Using a current conflict, is the president of Ukraine responsible for the rape, torture, and killing of HIS OWN soldiers, spies, and civilians when it was committed by rogue Russian soldiers? See how idiotic that is?!? Like any other leader/general during a war, Dumbledore had to make tough decisions that resulted in the death and harm of his soldiers but this doesn’t make him responsible for crimes of the DE’s. At least in this fictional account, the Order members volunteered to serve and knew the risks. And before anyone says Dumbledore involved children in the war, please remember Dumbledore didn’t choose Harry to fight Voldemort, a PROPHESY did. Not even Dumbledore could negate the laws of really in the magical world, though he did try. Remember the conversation he and Harry had at the end of book 5, the OotP? SS fanfic authors keep trying to blame Dumbledore in canon for Severus’ miserable life when that was the result of Severus’ choices and Voldemort’s treatment of him. As for Dumbledore keeping Severus on a short leash, why wouldn’t he?! Canon Snape was a DE who became and remained a spy ONLY because of his feelings for LP; NOT because he had a change of heart about being a DE. Remember, he asked Voldemort to spare Lily, but he didn’t care about Harry (or anyone else, for that matter). JKR has made it clear the Redeemed!Severus in fanfic is NOT the Severus Snape in her story.

Such a beautiful and deeply touching piece, it was wonderful. And what started as "I'll just pop on and read one story" has flown out the window, haha, I have to go read your other stories now (I'm glad I didn't have any important plans today, lol)

Author's Response: I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts about my work. I'm especially pleased you liked this piece. It was my first attempt at a PWP, but it sort of veered off into hurt/comfort territory. The war could so easily have ended in this fashion, and I could easily see Hermione pulling up the drawbridge and barricading herself against all comers.

This was so achingly beautiful and sweet...how did I miss this one? You've captured the very essence of SSHG and what it is that makes this pairing so perfect. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

Author's Response: Thank you, thank you! This was my first attempt at a PWP, but it evolved into something more. I almost chucked it into the Recycle Bin on my computer, but SnarkyWench changed my mind. I'm delighted you liked it.

Achingly sweet, with tender comfort for the hurt - beautiful.

Author's Response: You're an angel to comment, and you know I value your opinion. Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed it

Ah, another of your stories that captivated me. Thank you. I enjoyed the gradualness that felt just right, and his loving substitution for the words, "I love you." I doubt I will ever tire of reading your work.

Author's Response: What a beautiful compliment. Thank you. This piece was my first attempt at a PWP. I failed miserably. And yet, I really liked the dynamics between these two broken people. She might be his reward, but he is her 'raison d'etre' as well.

I already made you one of my favorite authors a long time ago. In itself that would imply that nearly everything you write should be favorited. All I know is, I love your work. You are one of the very best Snape depictors out there. Thanks for all your work, which is excellent. A "10" for you, even though it seems inadequate for all your tenderness and nuance.

Author's Response: You're a very rewarding audience. You read with an eye to interpretation, character and depth. Truly, you're my idea of a perfect audience. That you actually like my work makes it even sweeter when you leave a review. Thank you!

I wasn't expecting to be so moved by a single-chapter story, but you have surprised me again with your superlative writing! I imagine this would work very well as a longer piece, but you've made it quite powerful as a standalone chapter. Much respect!

Author's Response: What a lovely compliment. Thank you. This one-shot was my very first attempt at a PWP. I failed miserably, but I really liked the way the SS/HG dynamic played out.

Beautiful. I really loved the raw emotion from both of them. Well done.

Author's Response: What a lovely compliment. Thanks. This story was my first attempt at a PWP, but it developed into something more.
