Reviews for Dark Desecration

When a writer creates a story, even a fanfiction, she's not just taking characters and tossing them into a situation. She's revealing things about them that no one knew before, and in a very special way exclusive only to writing, revealing things about herself. You did a fabulous job of that on this story. I admit to being rather hesitant when I first started reading, but I'm glad that I did. I don't review very much, though I appreciate every story posted on this site, and I've read all your work. There's something about your style that made you a face and not just a penname, and this work showed through that style, who you are, and how beautiful you are. I'm very glad you posted this.

Author's Response: Thank you very much. I really appreciate the encouragement and the kind words. I am happy that you continued to read and are satisfied with the outcome. :)

I was rather prudish for a long time. I still am with alll but one person. I wouldn't have cared that he apologized. No apology about that can be sincere, I think. I'm probably just bitchy and biased though.

Author's Response: LOL... On some levels, yes, I do believe some can mean it. One of my "attackers" apologized to me, and he truly meant it. The other never did, but I believe if he said the words, they would be false anyway. I guess it's the type of person he is.

I'm very glad that you are cautious with your son. It happens all too often these things with family and broken trust. Some things one is just better off not having to learn first hand but when you are forced to you want to keep it to yourself and tell somebody at the same time. You're right... telling somebody doesn't always make it better. Although "I told you so" is not nearly as screwed up as "You deserved it" because nobody ever deserves it.

Author's Response: Agree completely.

Southern, after reading the first chapter when you first posted it, I decided to wait until it was completed to read it all the way through. The theme is a very powerful one. I think your portrayal of Snape and Hermione ring true as you've painted them. While he may have abused his power over her and used her for his own end, in his own twisted way, he came to care for her. The will to survive is the strongest instinct we possess. It would make sense for Hermione to passively go along with Snape if she thought her very survival depended on it. Not to mention the continued existence of Poppy and Minerva, too.

Your shift in feelings in chapter three brings up some interesting mind games being played out, all still plausible. The last chapter was most interesting. Would Hermione have stayed with Snape if he had lived? Will she ever be truly free?

I, too, had an Uncle that went after me when I was a teenager. I was thirteen, he was fifty. It is much more common than most people realize. He grabbed me and tried to French kiss me. I told my mother, who made sure I was never alone with him again. You didn't talk about it at the time. You just pretended everything was fine. Why I was forced to endure this man's presence after that is one of the classic wrongs of the entire situation. By the time I was eighteen, I refused to see him again. My mother had said she was sorry she didn't so more. I understand the general reactions of 40 years ago, don't talk about it and it will go away. That doesn't make it right.

My children have been taught that no one, absolutely no one has a right to tell them to do something they know is wrong, no matter who they are. Age and authority have no hold when an action is wrong. The principle at my children's middle school said they had little respect for authority. Not true. They respect the law and other people, they just tend to think for themselves first before blindly doing something they are told to do.

All in all, all you can do is make peace with yourself and move on. Life is too short to keep running into walls and not letting yourself life.

Author's Response: I agree. I do get on my kicks where I have narrowed eyes and think horrible thoughts about certain situations in the past. I still see them even now. This particular uncle, though, has moved out of state. Good riddance. My aunt ended up leaving him. Woohooo! LOL

I think that if I were in Hermione's situation, as an older woman--not child or teen, who was being molested/raped/used, I might even go along with it to save my life or lives of those whom I care for. You know? It's a survival thing. I'd try to kick some serious ass first though. Teehee. That's likely why I took up kickboxing when I got older. I wanted to make sure I could defend myself. And you know, it made me feel so much more confident.

I'm surprised that I ended up liking this... I'm a "fluff" lover and this certainly isn't fluffy... I'm also a "happily ever after" kind of gal and this isn't that either... I guess I liked it because Severus ended up doing something right... Thanks for the story.

Author's Response: Thank you. Yes, I felt compelled to have him atone for things at least a little. I'm glad you read and "liked" it. Cheers

Powerful story. I'm glad you had the strength to see it through.

Author's Response: Thank you. It's taken a while to answer these final reviews. I went off into a funk after writing this. I don't know if this triggered it or what. LOL...

powerful story. I'm confused about hermione likeing snape. but i guess that just happens like that sometimes, even in reality.

Author's Response: Well, I wouldn't say she liked him. In my mind, she hated to see him go but was glad at the same time. She forgave him but would never forget, and she doesn't bother to correct Harry or anyone from their assumptions. I'm sure she'll tell him the truth one day. But I did leave it sort of open and unexplained so that readers could draw their own conclusions.
