Reviews for The Ashes and the Flame

A rather sad and somewhat Pyrrhic postscript for Hermione...but given what she went through, probably the most realistic and perhaps the only plausible resolution. One of the things that irritates me a bit about JKR's ending is the somewhat disingenuous way in which she blithely skips over the years between the war's end and the departure of the next generation for Hogwarts, implying that everyone is living happily ever after when the truth is that nobody could experience what these people went through and escape scot-free without any emotional scars. I realize that JKR was writing for young children who aren't really capable of understanding all the complexities in the aftermath of a war, but still...

slightly kooky, but it was nice to read a piece that was so dramatically different to the usual fanfiction route. Very well written too x

Very beautoful but oh so sad. I'm left with this deep feeling of sadness and at the same time I want to shake her. How can she let herself keep loving such an cowardly imbecile (I know easy for me to say, and I know she in many ways is a broken woman - but still!!!). I hope Snape will get over her (never thought I'd write that). I know this is probably a bit immature, but I feel like shaking some Gryffindor courage back into her. Having said all that, I do believe yours is probably the right ending and my ramblings just wistfull refusals that someone like her can be so broken.

Wonderful blend of the Potter characters in the Greek tradition. Sad and dark, yes, but beautifully written - so much so that it has compelled me to come out of lurkdum to say it. Gems like this story don't deserve to fade into the archives to only be discovered at random.

This is one of the saddest, but most beautiful fanfics I've ever read. There is no happily-ever-after for Hermione or Severus. Her heart is broken, and she'll never love him the way he loves her. Joining Harry at long last is her heart's desire now, because she's lost too much and suffered too much. It's strange that, of the two of them, Severus seems to be the more content because she's still in his life. She reminds me in a way of Frodo Baggins at the end of Lord of the Rings: her wounds will never heal, and she yearns to cross over to the blessed realm where her true friends and her faithless lover are. This is going to haunt me, so I might as well list it and you among my favorites now. That way I'll be able to find it easily when I feel compelled to read it again. Very well done.
