Ah, but of whom is she jealous? This is open to all KINDS of interpretation....

Hmm. Without the author's note asking if readers saw the ending coming, I wouldn't have gotten the implication that Minerva was trying to warn Severus off Hermione because she was jealous. According to canon, if Hermione is sixteen then Snape is about thirty-five, which means he would have been sixteen nineteen years ago. Well, recalling what a hot number Maggie Smith (Minerva) still was twenty years ago, I can just about imagine her being the one to make Severus her 'protege' and refine him into the devastatingly sexy number he is on screen (in canon it's a completely other matter...). But the idea of a pervy, if very attractive, older woman letching after a boy that young is still pretty squicky to me, being the mother of a son myself. I think I'd want to kill any woman who would take advantage of my son from her fiduciary standing in loco parentis (a fiduciary relationship if ever there was one!), quite as much as I'd want to kill a man for the same offense against my daughter (or son!).

Intresting...What is Minerva jealous of though? Hermione's chances, love, or being with Severus? Loved the story, it's short and sweet.

Oops. Rereading 'Boys and Girls,' I can see why they might have judged this harshly. I still like it as ss/hg and remnants of ss/mm. Sorry for reviewing twice.

I highly disagree with the previous reviewer. You meant this as ss/hg, right? It certainly seems that way. Nice little ficlit. You know this conversation has to take place at some point...

Author's Response: I think so, too. I think some history is there between MM and SS, but who knows if it's motherly or otherwise. One of the reasons that I enjoyed "Boys and Girls" is because the author makes it known the Minerva herself has qualms with her actions, but is still territorial enough to be jealous of another female. Thank you for your support and for reviewing!!!
